Default NEW is300 owner/ headlight problems-no high beams

{no high beams**
So today i drove 3 hrs to pick up a black 02' is300, manual. its a beautiful car, well maintained lowerd on Tein struts and springs, hp cat back and k&n intake system.
So, when im checking the car out i realized the lights all work, except the high beams wont come on when you flip the switch. Has anyone else had or heard of this problem? the bulbs arent burned out we pulled them and checked. im thinking maybe the actual switch on the steering colum could be to blame??? any help would really be appriciated for someone new to the lexus/toyota side.

well its daylight out so im not sure if your talking about the auto setting?, if you flip the switch to "on" the low beam(HIDs) come on, and the fog lights work. then when you pull it or flip it to engage the brights the fogs shut off like they should. but the brights dont come on and neither does the normal bright indicator by the speedometer and tach

DRl's are your daytime running lights. They are your high beams at half power. When you start up the car they would come on with the light switch in the off position.

yeah i checked, i mean if it was one highbeam out id assume if it wasnt the bulb it was the connection, but its pretty odd for them to both just not function what so ever? i dont know if they are on a seperate fuse from the rest of the head/tail lights. anyone else with any ideas? ive had the car like 8 hrs total just trying to get some ideas where to start

It could be your switch or the wiring harness. Try this link http://www.bedlib.org/ebsco.html. Type in "user" for user id and "password" for password. Then just put in the year, make and model and you can use it like a repair manual for your car. I know GS's better then IS's. I'm not sure if I told you what fuse to look for if it would be the same.

try MY.IS website. there, you will be able to diagnose the problem.

I havent heard of anything like this either. Did you check your fuse boxes? There is one on the driver kick panel and a passenger kick panel under the dash. Check both fuse boxes and see if there is any fuses blown. Also, the fuses are really small. Preferred using a fuse prong

Funny thing is, that when I flipped the high beams. There was a surge that I didnt realize, and both high beam bulbs blew at the same time. Like it got melted on one side of the glass, and there was a hole. Weird. But I just changed out the bulb and they work again.

Good Luck and the my.is site is a great place for 1st gen IS3
