RX500h MPG
So it looks like lexus is being conservative about fuel remaining to protect the user I guess lol.
Also, im getting 21.5 MPG combined driving in NYC. Im also driving a bit spirited tho, in normal mode 90% of the time.
Still have less than 100 miles so im sure its breaking in.

Some others have been reporting 20 mpg, which had me worried (just a bit).
My order still stands, my salesperson hasn't notified me as to when it might arrive yet.
premium unleaded gasoline with
octane rating of 91 (Research
Octane Number of 96) or higher
for optimum engine performance.
You may use unleaded gasoline
with octane rating as low as 87
(Research Octane Number of 91).
In this case, engine performance
may be decreased. Use of octane
rating unleaded gasoline with an
octane rating lower than 87 may
result in engine knocking. Persistent knocking can lead to engine
damage.
RX500h: Select premium
unleaded gasoline with an octane
rating of 91 (Research Octane
Number 96) or higher required for
optimum engine performance and
fuel economy. If the octane rating is
less than 91, damage to the engine
may occur and may void the vehicle
warranty.
So with the 350h it seems to be up to the owner, whereas with the 500h it must be premium.
The EPA combined city/mileage is 27 premium gas MPGs for the RX500h and 36 regular gas MPGs for the RX350h. Once you adjust for the 20% higher cost of premium gas for the RX500h, it is equivalent to 21.6 regular gas MPGs…call it 22MPGs. Put another way, the RX500h hybrid costs 63% more to fuel than the RX350h hybrid. And about 10% less to fuel than the RX350 non-hybrid, which gets 24 premium gas MPGs.

The RX500h hybrid requires premium. The RX350h hybrid can run on regular. Premium is recommended but not required. I haven’t seen any posts where any owners use premium with the RX350h.

If you are going to shell out the cost of a hybrid (especially the 500H) the cost of fuel is a small consideration.
The fuel economy of the 350H and the extra power of the 500H would be an optimum package.
I understand that the cost of fuel is important to some, but obviously, not those who order the 500H.

Just to share my first MPG report for my 500h:
- Distance to Empty 47 miles
- Trip meter 371.5 miles, filled up 13.075 gallons.
- ECO mode, Climate AUTO at 70F, (NCal) at 50F-60F driving condition
- Hwy/Local ratio 85/15
- Hwy speed avg 65 to low 70s m/h

You calculate out to a 28.4 mpg. Very respectable and seems to confirm the milage claimed by Lexus. All the discussions here about premium vs regular gas are moot since Lexus actually recommends premium fuel for all their hybrid RXs.

Since I just placed my order for a Copper RX500h as my daily driver with Lexus of Albuquerque I want to thank you for this. The mileage and/or miles to empty on a vehicle's computer is notoriously incorrect. Typically close but not exact. The only way to find the actual milage is to calculate it the 'old fashioned' way as you have done. Doing this, however, falls into the high-level math category for most people!
