Distance to Empty - Not even close
On my 2023 Rx500h I'm only getting 18-19 mixed city/hwy driving. Mixed Normal to Sport modes. Can only fill up the tank 12-13 gallons when it's supposed to be filled up according to the dashboard, if I push the limits and drive till zero miles to empty and below, I can squeeze 14 gallons in the supposedly 17.3 gallon tank. The Rx350's I get as a loaner vehicle get way better MPG even the gas models versus my 500h. Anyone else care to chime in on the 500h MPG/fuel tank capacity?

The 5th gen RX has a 17.2-gallon gas tank per manufacturer specs. However, I could hardly put 13 gallon of gasoline in when the fuel gauge showed empty. I understand the need for car manufacturers to be conservative and maintain a "reserve" of fuel, but 4 gallons seem to be excessive, especially considering the MPG of the hybrid RX's. We are talking about at least 120 miles of driving range after the gas tank is supposedly empty. This seems overly conservative and in fact mis-leading. This is akin to the speedometer showing 75 mph when you are actually going 55 mph, just to make sure that you are not speeding. We want and need our instrument panel showing accurate information so that we can make correctly informed decisions.
We have been noticing that when we fill the tank, it takes a much smaller amount of fuel than expected. So today, showing only approximately 1/8 tank, and 53 miles remaining, it only took 9.6 gallons. Even after trying to add more (which we never typically do), it only took .1 more fuel. Wondering if we might have a partially collapsed tank. Had this happen years ago in a brand new Volvo that had the same symptom.
FYI: Consistently showing we get 35.1-35.5 mpg.- but don't think that information helps (?)

Has anyone had issues filling their tank to capacity ? I’ve had my RX for 8 months and still can not get more than 14 gallons in it. The fuel pump cuts off at 11 or 12 and then I have to force the gas in to get to 14. That’s if I’m near empty with the light on. I had 50miles left and the pump stopped at 10.8. Dealer says no other issues like this have been reported. Thoughts ? I’m getting 38.5 mpg , but would like to be able to get closer to a 17 gallon tank .
From what I can tell, fuel tank is a little over 17 gallons in size.
There is a 3-4 gallon reserve when the fuel gauge reads empty.
I have not tested the reserve amount. I assume there is 3-4 gallons left when on empty. Each time I fill up on empty, I put in around 12-14 gallons. Kinda sucks to have 25% of your tank in a reserve status.

First: Don't try to FORCE extra fuel into the tank, you may damage the evaporative control system. It is made to contain VAPOR, not liquid FUEL.
Next: If you have read the entirety of this Topic you will see that what you experience (showing empty with 5+ gallons remaining) is almost universal. So the dealer must be wearing ear plugs, LOL. The official story is that the extra gasoline is necessary to protect the hybrid system.

If you want to complain to anybody, tell the dealer that you want to confer with Lexus Corporate, then DO IT. Not sure if they can/will do anything, but make your voice heard to someone who can do something...
I have same issue with my new Rx 350h. I fill up once a month after driving in 'normal' mode. I tend to drive until DTE is at close to zero - because there is an apparent ample reserve. I try to put a consistent 14 gal in the tank. It might click off from Costco hoses between 13 - 13.5 gal, then I round off to 14 gal (don't think I'm over filling as I can keep going if I wanted). Anyways, wanted to share my story. After filling, DTE is approx 550 miles and I pretty much hit that.
I tried the same thing and always got only about 505 miles to empty. I am now visiting Portland and the pump nozzle is a little smaller even on a Super Unleaded and for the first time got 530 miles to empty after filling. I did not top off. Maybe the flow rate is much slower than in California. Bottom line is that 5 gal reserve does not make sense.

Filled up today after 890 kms on a full tank. Probably 60/40 hwy/city. Averaged 5.8 l/100 or about 48 Imp. MPG/40.5 US MPG. I could only get 51.7 l into the tank. That is a LOT of reserve on a 65 liter tank! But I sure cannot complain about the MPG.
