It will let tself be used, it just doesn't let you know that it's there, or how much further you can go on it.
it’s not being used, if we are having to fill up before we use the reserve. Lexus shouldn’t advertise 17 gallons of user can’t drive 17 gallons of miles or pump 17 gallons when empty.
WELL FINALLY RAN OUT OF GAS!
Here is what happened.
Started the car and within and noticed A/C was not blowing cold air, it was at that time I noticed the message in the dashboard.
"Engine stopped No Fuel"
Mileage was 351 miles driven since last full tank fill up (really concerned about that!).
The car was able to run in EV mode at that time, I thought about driving to the gas station, but decide to put in 1 gallon of gas.
Drove to the station and proceeded to fill up, at 12.586 gallons the car would not take any more gas. I mean would not take any more gas, I could even see it was full in the fill hole and not going down.
I turned off the the pump and closed the gas cap, started the car and the gas gauge did not go all the way to the top (last bar did not fill in).
Let the car run for about 2 or 3 minutes and decided to put more gas in.
Started to pump gas again and was able to put in another 3.679 gallons of gas at that point.
Started the car and the fuel gauge went all the way to the top.
So 12.589 + 3.679 + 1 = 17.268 gallons
What I am really upset about is that would mean that I am getting 20.40 MPG on a 17.2 gallons of gas, which it HORRIBLE for this RX500h Lexus!
AND HERE IS THE STRANGE PART, if you listen to the video (short because of limited file size) you can hear a noise almost like a whistling noise, that happen the whole time I did my first fill up.
Almost like it was pushing air out of the fuel tank, causing the whistling sound.
If someone has got lexus to fix this please let me know, otherwise my next stop is Lexus Customer care about this issue..
I used to own two different Toyota tundras over the years, and I always found there was about 3 gallons less than what was stated. What I later learned was that there is an area of the tank where the fuel pump sits, and that the liquid in that area is used to cool off the fuel pump. if you drain the fuel all the way down, the fuel pump is exposed and starts to overheat. That will ultimately cause a failure of the fuel pump. I believe that is what the 17.2-3 or so gallons is telling us.
What you said about the Tundra fuel pump being surrounded by 3 gallons of non usable gas is the 1st logical explanation to this whole tank filling issue. I wonder if that's what is going on with our Rx's?
NO. The car computer uses the historical data to calculate the DTE so you see the 410 miles. If you decide to put the car in sport mode and drive aggressively you get much less than 410. If you drive in ECO mode and be very conservative and light on the gas pedal then you might get more than 410.
When I fill up my 350h I usually see a 510 miles DTE.
I've had the new vehicle for about a month and I've noticed that when re-fueling the gas nozzel will stop, but I can continue to fuel for an additional $10 to $15 more? Is this a good idea or not? Should I stop when the nozzel 1st stopped?

Well in Canada that's about two gallons. Lexus's do shut the pump off quickly and maybe a touch early. Some gas stations pour pretty fast and that will trip the nozzle.
After 40 litres I slow it up a bit, and never top it off...just don't do that!
I guess with the 350H you won't get much practice lol, no concern, have fun, and happy new ride, and Happy New Year!
Welcome to the forum and asking a great question. The risk of getting fuel in the fuel evaporator canister when topping off can be a costly repair. It's meant to prevent fumes from escaping into the atmosphere. If soaked in gas, it won't function. It won't be covered under warranty and will throw dashboard trouble lights at the very least.
As mentioned, slow down the fuel nozzle flow if you really need to get those extra few gallons in. If one is doing long distance trips, I can see that as essential.
When I ran our RX450h+ down to empty, it took the Lexus claimed full capacity of 14.5 gallons without undo effort. I just used full speed until it clicked off, then half speed until it clicked again.
I purchased my 2024 RX350H in December and have yet to put more than 12 gallons in the 17 gallon capacity tank. Today my gas light came and I received a warning on my display. With the dash reading only 8 miles to go until empty, the car took only 12 gallons of gas. I’m resetting my odometer after every refill, and my distance traveled when I show empty is consistently around 100 miles lower than what my tank said it would get at fill up. The reason most of us purchase a hybrid is to visit the gas pump LESS. Has anyone else heard anything about this? I am still 3K away from my 5K service, but am considering calling and bothering my service department about it due to how annoying it is! Gas gauge should be accurate.
There are many posts on this. Don't bother wasting your time and effort as this is "normal for all 350h's. You should consistently get 400+ miles per tank but no where near the 600+ miles they advertise.
Just to be clear, one can get 600 miles if one is willing to completely empty the tank. If one wants to be safe and fill up when it reads empty, then it's closer to 400.
