#Android Auto / #Apple #Carplay
Maybe check out this thread https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gx-...-consoles.html
For my skimming it doesn't really look like a great option. Carplay or android auto is one of the few things I think would make the GX a better experience.

Im debating on waiting to purchase till the 2021 GX comes out to see if they update its infotainment system to add CarPlay. Im thinking it won't happen in 2021 because I am hearing they are doing a total update on the LX which is totally out of my league. Anyone hearing of changes to the GX for 2021?
Right now theres no indication of an Apple Carplay or Android Auto system integration. Theories exist that since this model is chugging it out till at least end of 2023 and that system overlays like Android Auto and Carplay are all the rage (Realistically breath of fresh air into an aging outdated platform), Lexus might reconsider adding it in the near future. The current system even in the MY20s are too old generation wise to run AA/CP interface, and would require at least the current Gen 10 system upgrade over the current 8th generation thats been in use since the MY14 refresh.
If anything, keep an eye on the MY21 release of the Global Land Cruiser Prado headunit. If they launch it externally, their first, more chances they add similar tech into the GX in the future.
Aftermarket:
-Tesla style headunit is probably the most popular addition. Its probably the only thing available, and its quirky and typically poorly supported from the seller/mfg. Support for this product primarily comes from the community DIYing/Troubleshooting. For a unit thats costs as much, unless you really feel adventurous MAJOR PASS.
-Someone bought an overlay unit, forgot the details but essentially you run another thin panel over the unit (correct me if im wrong). That does accomplish CP/AA but only one member has had it, and was not satisfied. If you search you`ll find the thread.
To be honest a good phone holder is probably the best method of integration I`d recommend to most folks. If you need CP/AA in your new GX, I`d probably venture elsewhere...

From what I have heard from Lexus representatives, it doesn't look like Apple car play is coming anytime soon. They are looking to keep this generation for 3-4 more years. I've also heard rumors that if it does come out in 21+, we have MIGHT have the ability to add it in.
I travel a lot for work and rent a lot of cars. Apple Car play is fantastic, especially for navigation. its not like it can do everything but its very nice having that stuff up on the screen in that car and being able to use voice commands. The voice to text for sending iMessages works very well.
My experience has mostly been in 2018+ Ram 1500's, I get them a lot for some reason. Although I did have it in an F150 at one point.

I don't care nearly as much that it's not in the OEM head unit as I do that the OEM head unit is virtually impossible to replace with an after-market unit with CarPlay. in 2020 in a $60,000 car it seems tone-deaf to buyers and inexcusable. It's dumb to not have it in the upscale marque, and inexcusable to design the factory stereo so that it can't be upgraded.
I've been skimming this thread looking for an answer, and instead of starting a new thread I want to confirm here in no uncertain terms -
It appears as though there are NO OPTIONS to replace the OEM head unit in the 2nd gen GX with a CarPlay compatible unit? I'm not talking about mirroring or some weird workaround...but a fully functional CarPlay unit does not exist for this vehicle?
If so, that's insanely disappointing. We have a 2018 GX that we purchased new and adding CarPlay to it would be a game changer.

I noticed there is NO Apple Car Play and NO Android Auto in the 2020 GX! Just the Lexus Enform crApp Suite. Shouldn't Lexus include the Car Play and Android Auto in a 2020 FaceLifted GX? Both Apple Car Play and Android Auto are included in the RX. Hey, at least it is still touchscreen on the GX. What gives here? Thoughts?
The face-lift was very minor. These features won't be implemented until a redesign IMO. The LX is supposed to get a full redesign for 2021 and rumor has it the 5.7 will be out and replaced with the twin turbo V6. This will be the continuing trend engine wise. Hybrids / forced induction. When the GX will get a redesign is anybodys guess. Probably not until 2022 or 23.
