#Brake Issues/Problems/Questions
I always leave many car lengths between myself and car in front if I am driving the GX at any significant speed. Not that it should ever be done, but this is a terrible car for tailgating.
I've been impressed with the brakes actually. Once, while hauling our camping trailer in the mountains and approaching a stop sign (so 40-45 MPH) the wife gasped and since I was enjoying the scenery a bit, I panicked and got on the brakes HARD. I knew the stop sign was coming and was off the skinny pedal coasting for it, but she thought I was going to blow through it. Anyway, panic braked hard and man did the GX and trailer (no brakes) come to an abrupt and hard stop. I mean tires screaming, passerbys looking, etc.
While I don't recall the ABS kicking in, I also didn't experience the dead pedal you did. I've read that Toyota's have some sensor that detects panic/hard braking and will assist in offering 100% braking pressure on the system. Their research showed that even when under a panic braking situation, loads of drivers (I think 80% or something) aren't exerting full force on the pedal and are leaving some braking force on the table, so the engineered a system to help avoid that unused potential and I believe that's what I experienced, full 100% braking force. I also wonder if that's potentially a system that made your GX act a bit strange during your experience.
Edit: Here's a video explaining the Brake Assist and other systems, might help determine what happened in your situation.

I had to emergency brake for the first time this last week. The pedal went hard and the 460 slowed rapidly, but no ABS jump and bump. The weird part was when the truck was truly slowed to crawling the pedal went to the floor and there was no more braking. I had to release the pedal and push down again, which brought the truck to a stop.
My 5th gen 4Runner was doing a thing where a certain level of brake input would bring the vehicle to a stop, but it would start to creep unless you applied more pressure. Bleeding the brakes a few times improved this a great deal.
Hi, someone cut me off and to avoid hitting them i slammed on brakes and immediately they locked and released and i started hearing a loud buzz inside the cab. I drove home 20 miles with the buzzer. Turned car off and on- still buzzing...unplugged battery—- STILL buzzing-what is going on?

Maybe some kind of faulty relay or something. I know in the LS460 they had some notorious issue with the brake master cylinder but not sure if this carried on into the GX. No warning lights CEL / ABS codes?
This was my first thought. Maybe the hard braking shifted the third row and now the warning buzzer is going off because the seat isn't in its full upright position. OP, if you have power folding third row move them up/down into the fully stowed or fully up position and see if that helps.
Anyone got a trick to get the rubber boots to butt up against the calipers and the bracket? Mine seems to have a little gap where the threads of the slide pins come out on the other end? I tried to pry them over the threads but they don’t stay matching up to the calipers.
Hey all, I have a 2010 GX460 Base with 117k miles. We purchased in 2019 with 90k miles and it was meticulously maintained. This is our first luxury vehicle and Lexus so didn't know that the fairly deep pedal depression was not something you should have to live with. Lots of times in a drivethru or stopped the vehicle might tend to creep if you don't press hard enough, I always figured the AWD torque did that. Anyways, we decided to have it checked out by a local shop that specializes in Lexus/Toyota. To my SHOCK, the tech came back that the brake actuator motor was not activating at all, no power or action. He then explained to me that, unfortunately, the entire ABS Control Module needed to be replaced as it comes as one unit to repair this issue. $4,000 to do the job!
I knew owning a luxury car would be more expense but this really caught me by surprise. I'm having it towed to my local Lexus dealer for second opinion. The odd thing is, there is no ABS light, no beeping or codes thrown at all. Both the current repair shop and Lexus were surprised to hear the actuator being dead and no codes or lights.
This apparently is a somewhat growing issue or I seem to be hearing of people with LS, GS, and GX with this issue of the ABS module/actuator failing. Anyone had this issue before? I'm hoping maybe its something else that can be done besides a full replacement of a $3,000 part! When I lookup parts, the actuator, master cylinder, and ABS module look to be all items you can purchase independently so its very confusing.
There are no sounds being made by the car, just a more deep press than is necessary to activate the brakes and such. Will post results from Lexus' diagnostic, wanted to get thoughts here. Thanks in advance!

Hello all,
I have an interesting issue with my 2010 gx460. I had a local Toyota specialty shop install EBC rotors and pads about 8000 miles ago. I also had them swap the brake hoses with power stop stainless steel braided brake hoses. Last weekend I noticed that my brakes were making some awful noise so I dropped the vehicle back at the shop that did the install. They pulled the wheels off and said that the rear pads are completely worn through and the rear rotors are shot from metal on metal braking. They also indicated that the fronts are already down to 8/32. The technician working on the car has no suggestions as to the cause of the premature depletion of the pads. According to the tech the rears are completely worn through on both sides and worn even/flat which suggests that it is not an issue with the caliper. The best that they could offer is that I was driving with the parking brake on, which I know is not the case as the GX screams at me if I do that. Additionally, the parking brake on the GX is a drum inside the rotor hub so I don't believe that would even cause the rear pads to wear out. Any ideas here? At this point I am going to have them replace the rears and see if it happens again, pretty expensive experiment assuming I will be right back where I am now in 6months. Any help here would be appreciated!
