You can check the Roll Call thread.

A lot of us have the remote start. Yes, the engine turns off when you open the door.

It is a safety feature, preventing others get into the car and drive off~

Actually I find this annoying that is shuts off when I am openning the door. When you use the remote starter, doors are locked until you come to the car with a remore control so nobody can get in anyway. Is there a way to disable automatic power off. I have not seen anything in the car computer.

Nope, It is like that, maybe they will be some after market ways to do it, but since the remote start have to be within 30 ft to activate, that means driver will usually be near the car, door could be able to open or what if people break the window and get in? I don't think Lexus will change the setting.

It is fine for me, since it will be very hot when I need to use the remote start, that means parking at the lot with my sun shade on the windshield, so getting into the car and press the button is not that much work for me while removing the shade.

However, I rarely use the remote start because the range is so short, I usually just go and get into the car and drive, it is worst to wait outside and let the A/C cool down the car first

Default Remote Start

Has anyone bought the Remote Start kit from Sewell or other and had it installed by a Dealer ??

I installed the kit, but the process failed and it needed a Lexus Computer to finish the installation. I was charged $125 to perform the Communication Procedure. I am curious what the charge would have been if I had taken the kit to the dealer and had them install it.

The dealer informed me today, that it would cost $312.50 labor, if they install the Remote Start Kit.

Wasn't it a 450.00 port installed option? That price is really high just for labor.

I agree that it sounds expensive. That labor charge does not include the price of the kit. However, that's the price that was given to me by South Bay Lexus, Torrance, California.

Try another dealer. That sounds like a rip off...

Default remote start

Prior to my new Lxus car I had a Lincoln MKZ with remote start. The Lincoln had the same issue: the motor turned off when the door was opened. I did not like that and Lincoln reprogrammed the computer to avoid this 'feature' to act in this way. I was much happier after that. I am sure Lexus can offer the same to their customers. Anyway, that should be a customer preference.

Its defiantly a great feature and i prefer GM's adoption. AC blows air depending on outside temperature and locks the vehicle and shift lever to avoid car going anywhere. Im disappointed Lexus missed the boat on this one.
