Default Gx470 shift linkage connection issues

Hi Team. Need your help please
My 04 GX470 got stuck in neutral at the boat ramp today.
Opened up the interior panel covering the stick and look inside to see the plastic linkage connecting the cable to the stick on a pin has come off.
Got it back on but it falls off a lot need to keep my finger inside to hold it on.
Really need the car to be mobile this week.
Cannot see how it connect but i have not taken it apart yet tonight.
Is there a surclip? I looked at the transmission assembly but cannot see in that detail if there is a clip of some sort.
The plastic end connection looks flogged out too.
Need to find some parts and get them ordered asap
On another note the car dragged my new 23ft 5000lb boat 600miles this weekend no problems.
Had to go to the gas station every hour and half. Its a beast and i love it even today

Thanks

Here is a picture. It should be held on with a cir-clip... i can’t find the part separate from the $230 cable. But I’d remove the nut on the opposite side and slide the part, the cable attaches too, out.
Then take it to a hardware store and find a clip that works. Or just buy a big multi size kit off amazon. But there should be a grove that the clip slides into.

Or
use a tap amp and die kit.. make threads on the part where the cable end slides on... then use a lock-nut w/ locktyte to hold it on. Either way would be a permanent fix.

From the picture... it looks like there should be a “block plate” that prevents it from sliding off.

Take a picture of yours yours and post it.

Good find!!

this must be a frequent issue with the Toyota/Lexus trucks/suv’s With this 4.7L V8 and trans combo.

I’m glad amazon saved the day again.

When you have the issue exposed enough to take a picture(before you repair it)... please post one. I’d like to see what occurred and if the “block plate” on mine has a way to prevent it from doing the same thing.

bushingfix.com part worked perfectly.
Easy install.
Remove trip. Front side by ash trap first the gear stick surronding take a fair bit of force to pop clips
Take top of shifter cover by removing pin thorugh back side and flip up from the back, locating tabs on front side.
Pins has circle clip fitting pushed on passengers side end
good luck all

So what happened to the “stopper/stay” that prevented the linkage end from sliding off in the first place?

was there a broken piece of plastic or metal piece laying down at the bottom of the housing?

The shifter bases can chew some plastic up(I’m assuming it was just a plastic thin “L” shaped “stay”) quickly when moving the shifter from park to drive... do you use th me manual gear select? Or just park through drive?

I’m adding 2 dual Qualcomm usb Charger sockets to my GX this weekend... 1 will replace the 12v outlet by the the seat heater controls.. and 1 will go below the rear headphone jacks on the back of the center console.. I’m also wiring the to 30 power, that way they will charge with the ignition off.

So so I’ll look at my linkage when i have those console apart.

Heres a pic of what i’m referring to... they are going to be a nice addition.

Nice quality built Charger... I love the voltage read out.. and if I need a 12v outlet..I still have the cigarette lighter above the seater controls, in the flip open box. The GX470 models should have come with rear seat and cargo area 12v outlets...IMO.

Default Quick Fix

I found a very simple Way to QuickFix the issue. Tie strap loosely around the rod and trough the track next to it. Prevents the rod and eye to drift to the left and fall off the tap
