I have a 2009 GX 470. In the middle of the instrument panel there is a flashing red light with a key in the middle. Obviously this is not good, but I couldn't find anything in the owner's manual about this warning light.
Can anyone tell me what is going on?
Thanks,
Pat

If you dont have a programmed key in the ignition, this will flash.
Insert your key and see if the icon goes away.
Thanks for the reply.
It's the original key.
If it is inserted the light goes away.
Only when key is taken out does the flashing begin.

Thats normal.
I hate to be a bother, but it's over an hour since I took the key out and its still flashing red.

Yep, this just lets the criminals know, they need the original key to start this truck.
Rest assured this is fine and is present on many other vehicles!

Thanks for the reply. I'm no car/truck guy, just stick the key in and go. So when I get a warning light that I've never seen it's good to get feedback from people who know what the heck their talking about.
If you have a "valet key" (usually a light gray) it also has the chip built in, but no remote built in and limited functionality. As mentioned, with a master key, when you insert the key and start the car the security key icon will go out. With the valet key it will start and run but will continue to blink while doing so.
No valet key that I know of. I purchased the vehicle used. The warning light is now off, so I've got my fingers crossed.
Thanks for the feedback.
