OEM Tow Package?

OEM Tow Package?

Is there anything more than just the Hitch to the factory Tow Package? I am looking for a GX and I must be able to tow with it. I have found several that have added an aftermarket hitch to them, but I was curious if there was more to the OEM package....ie, transmission cooler, wiring, or anything like that.

There is a factory installed electrical receptacle for the wiring harness adapter which is found adjacent to the hitch. I am not certain if this came standard on all model years or not. Other than making sure the electrical connection is there and the truck has the appropriate class hitch for the type of towing that you will be doing that's all there is to it, the GX is ready to tow.

I believe there's a towing capacity difference between the factory and add-on hitches - 6,500 versus 5,500 lbs (from memory)

It all depends on the class hitch installed, nothing more.

Right - but the factory "bumper" hitch is rated at 5,000 pounds, versus a class III hitch installed underneath which is rated at 6,500.

Correct, I misunderstood. By "add-on" hitch you meant the undermount OEM hitch not an after market hitch.

Mine had ane aftermarket hitch on it....but I appears there is a factory harness and 7 pin trailer plug underneath. Is it possible the the factory prepped the car for a hitch but never installed it.....maybe the hitch itself was a dealer installed option.

If I am not mistaken all GX's come with the towing receptacle from the factory. The buyer/owner can opt to add the hitch as an option if they choose.

So the hitch itself is a dealer installed option. So if each GX come with the 7 pin plug, and the tow hitch is installed by the dealer. Then that answers my original question, nothing more to the "tow package" other than a dealer install hitch.
