Default Re: My 4/18/07 "After Fixed Clunk" At Dealer

In reference to the extraordinary bad ride after my clunk was fixed and the pivoting of the body and mushy suspension: I took it to the dealer today and they fixed it. THEY HADN'T CONNECTED THE NEW LINKAGE/BARS THAT GO WITH THE FIX.

No response from the service manager.

Any takers on the post-TSB Driveshaft number request in post #324?
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...&postcount=324

or the pics of the post-TSB rear control arms... (or even pre-TSB) in post #327?

Thanks.

My guess is they forgot to connect the panhard rod -- not the control arm. Without the control arm I think the rear of the truck would have come crashing down. The panhard rod keeps the rear axle roughly centered under the vehicle:

Oh, and I'm with Gator, we should start posting some pics of the old and new parts to educate ourselves.

So I called my local dealer two weeks ago on 4-13-07 to notify them that I have the clunk and they told me they would order the parts and it should take about 1 week for them to come in. I did not hear from them last week and then I decided to call them myself today. I spoke with the man in service and he told me that they have the Driveshaft in stock, but there is a nation wide backorder for the control arms. He said they could come in in as little as 3 days or 3 weeks, it just depends on Lexus. He wasn't real sure how long it would be, so I guess it could be even longer than 3 weeks (5 weeks total from the time I called and they ordered the parts).
Has anyone else heard about this "nationwide backorder" or been told this? Any ideas as to how long I'm really looking at until my GX can go into service?

Thanks,
Josh

Same thing happened to me... Driveshaft was there right away, control arms took another month or two... don't remember how long, I just called my SA about every two weeks until they showed up...

Good news! I was driving to work today and Lexus called me letting me know they received all the parts for the TSB. I have an appointment 5/1/07. I hope all goes well and the ride is better than new after it's completed.

On a side note, my brother has an 06' Subaru WRX STI and he was mentioning to me that when he comes to a stop he'll feel a clunk (thump). The way he described it sounds very similar to our clunk in the GX. Does anyone know if it could be the driveshaft and control arms on his STI or if it would be a completely separate problem?

Default clunk covered under which warranry?

Is this clunk covered under the drivetrain warranty for the 03' GX? Im wondering from the people who took their cars in to get this fix what warranty the dealers used to cover payment.

Thanks!!

Dear Silverlady,
I have a 2005 silver metallic GX470 and had noticed the CLUNK at approx. 22K mi. and currently have 32K mi... didn't think anything of it until I read your posting concerning the CLUNK. I called my dealer - Towson Lexus of MD and spoke to the service manager and set up an appointment concerning the CLUNK for next week (5-7-07). The warranty for the GX470 is 50K or 4 years, whichever comes first. The service manager was aware of this TSB so I will bring my GX470 in for this TSB. Will keeep you posted concerning the repair..
Again, thanks for your post..... roninwong

Welcome to the forum, Roninwong!

Let us know how it goes. I'd be curious if you saw any difference in the ride before and after the work is done.

Yes. The newest TSB covers the DRIVESHAFT until 70,000 miles and the CONTROL ARMS until 50,000 miles. But, my whole CLUNK was fixed for nothing by making a little noise. I had over 60,000 miles on my car.

The newest TSB is dated April 19, 2006. The revision # is DL001-06.

Default Bye Bye Clunk

I just had the DL001-06 TSB done on my GX and picked it up this morning. I have not felt the clunk at all yet. I used the rear height adjustment up and down quite a few times and everything worked like new. I was nervous at first that when I got the GX back, it would have a poor ride to it, but the ride is still perfect like before.
I left my garage door opener in the loaner RX and I didn't realize it until I got home. I called the service department and spoke with Pamela. She lives in my city, which is about 35 miles away from Lexus and is also quite a bit out of my way since I rarely make it out that way. Anyways, Pamela said she would probably just meet me somewhere near my house and drop it off for me. How's that for service!? I was very pleased with my experience and I hope the clunk is gone forever.

Default Bye Bye Clunk

Hey Josh'sGX - sweet news on the repair of your clunk. Hope it never comes back! :-)

By any chance, do you remember if this clunk repair was covered under the standard or drivetrain warranty.

Thanks!!
