Clunk Fix with new TSB

I wish more '07 (and late '06) owners would crawl under their GX's and check the code on their driveshaft. It is as simple as looking at a sticker at the rear end of the driveshaft (although the sticker has to be facing down). This would even be helpful by anyone who has had the TSB performed.
If Lexus only made the running change (sometime in '06) to put in the beefier rear control arms but decided not to change the driveshaft (still PNM5)... that might mean that maybe there was some reason to only change the driveshaft for those that complained about the clunk.

Looks like my 07 GX built in 10/06 is developing the clunk. By having the A/C on and coming to a stop, and lowering the rear of the vehicle, I could feel the binding as the rear lowers. Just a little history. I had an 06 GX prior to the 07 and it developed the clunk last June. I had the dealer do the latest TSIB (April 19, 2006) on the 06 in July of 2006 with the updated parts and it cured the clunk. Now before I traded the 06 in for the 07, I measured the diameter of the rear lower control arms and they are the same as the ones on my 07. The previous lower control arms on the 06 were thinner in diameter (I measured them prior to the changeout) so I thought my 07 was all set. Seems like for me, the GX starts the clunk right around 3,000 miles. After I had the 06 done, I never accumulated another 3,000 miles to see if the clunk came back. I suspect it would have. I still don't think Lexus knows what the problem is. They are just throwing new parts on the vehicle hoping it will cure the problem. Now I have to decide whether to scedule my 07 for the TSIB? Next month I'm moving to California, so if I have the repair done soon, no doubt by the time I get to California (over 3,000 miles), the clunk will redevelop again. I just checked the rear driveshaft 4 digit code from the original rear driveshaft code on my 06 and it was PNM5. After the TSIB, the code is PNO0. The code on my current 07 GX rear driveshaft is PNM5. I bet my 07 GX has the correct upper and lower control arms BUT it has the old style faulty rear driveshaft.
Now the problem will be getting a dealer to perform the TSIB on an 07 GX, since they are not in the 2003 - 2006 GX range wher the TSIB is authorized to cover. Yes, I know some have had their 07's done, but I guarantee that most dealers will only go by the vehicles covered by the TSIB.
Could anyone who has had their GX repaired with the latest TSIB, crawl under and check the 4 digit code that is on a white sticker on the rear driveshaft? Disregard the long 14 digit numbers under it. That would narrow it down.

My 07 GX was also built in 10/06 and developed what I now believe to be the clunk at around 3K miles. I looked at the rear driveshaft tonight and it is PNM5. I had my 5K service last week, and the SA claimed that there was nothing wrong with the truck. I don't think it's that noticable at this point, but it's getting worse and I may bring it in once it's more repeatable.

Clunk in 4Runner and GX
Does anyone have an estimate of the percentage of these vehicles that experience this problem. I've owned 3 4Runners ('96 and earlier) and I am currently intending to buy a GX to replace my '05 Landrover LR3 because of persistent minor issues which have undermined my confidence on the reliability issue. But I would hate to make a change and still have annoying persistent issues.

i just got my tsb done seems alot stiffer when driving but the clunk is gone. thanx to all on this forum, the dealer was trying to tell me there was no fix for it until i told them the tsb number read earlier in this thread. they fix it. man california dealer are shady

OK, just an update. My dealer got the driveshaft and control arm kit in 2 days. The new driveshaft does have the sticker with the code PN00. See photo below. That is the driveshaft which is the correct one to cure the clunk issue. The one with code PNM5 is the old style and evidently will cause the clunk somewhere in the future. The rear control arms certainly look the same as the ones that came on my 07 GX, well except the lower arms do have a white spot of paint in the middle, but maybe something in the rubber bushings have changed?
Now I just will have to wait for about 3500 miles and see if the clunk comes back. That should only take me about 3 weeks.
