Charleston,

Are you saying that if I join the Toyota techinfo site that this information is available online for the 05 GX?

Sorry for the dumb quesiton, but I have been trying to get my hands on any and all "official" info for the 05 model.

Thanks,

Marc

Hello Marc,

Yes if you pay $10 bucks for 1 day access you can browse around Toyota, Scion and Lexus stuffs. It is very interesting for me since I'm a car nut. A lot of it is technical information which will bore many people plus majority of buyers don't even care about.

For instance, the anti roll bar stiffness rate of a KDSS front is 50 lbf/in and Rear 86.6 lbf/in and Non KDSS Rates Front 6.6 lbf/in and rear 1.5lbf/in respectively.

From my calculations Front rate was increase by 757% and rear a whooping 5773% increase!!! but remember the attachment points are different from KDSS and non KDSS, so motion ratio has to be taken in to account. So the front rates will be a bit stiffer than it is and rear will be softer when in the truck.

These are the just some facts you'll be able to access when you join techinfo.lexus.com. If you ever decide to join, to access the GX stuff select all years in the year drop down menu and check New Car Features. The NCF section explains what was changed to the vehicle in every year and I noticed that every year the vehicles gets better.

Now I remember when my friend explained to me why he nevers buys a car on the first few years of production. Because generally speaking the manufacturers are still sorting out the bugs on the car in the first few years and the later models in the production cycle are more refined.

For many people they would like to be the first to have that new car on the block, so they don't care about minor refinements years on. But for enthusiast, some opt to wait and have the upgraded brakes, engine, suspension etc. Or for some who can't wait , we can always trade up right?

Charleston

Hi Charleston,

Thanks for the reply - I'm an engineer AND a car nut so it sounds like a perfect place for me to join for a day or two. That stuff on the KDSS is pretty wild! Makes we rethink getting it on the 05 I put a deposit on a few weeks ago

Is there a lot of info (other than what you posted) on the 05 GX model or does it look like they are just starting to add it?

Thanks again,

Marc

Marc,

One of the reasons I joined in is to get some engineering ideas and wiring diagrams for my GX. If you look at every New Car features from 1990 to 2005 you will see a pattern that manufacturers (toyota) heavily updates the car in the first 2nd or 3rd years and in the final 2 years of production (moslty cosmetic) to boost sales.

You'll be amazed by the technical stuff offerd which is down loadable to a pdf format so its yours to keep. It's probably the best $10 I've ever spent for automotive informantion. Plan on spending half a day for down loading.

I think they added a lot to the 05 GX so I'll guess that in 07-08 we might see a face lift and a few more additional changes until the new one comes out.

Regards,
Charleston

Some of the cruise control parameters were changed again along with changes to the KDSS on the 06 GX.

What's different in 2006 with the KDSS?

Software of the Stabilizer Control ECU is changed.
Front and Rear Stabilizer control tubes are changed from separate type to the integrated type.
Accumulator Pressure Sensor for the lower chamber is discontinued.
But the basic construction and operation are not changed.

Also on ALL 06 GX models, the EVAP service port has been removed.

Thanks for the information. Do you know why these updates were made? I have no clue by looking at the changes. Thanks again.
