Long story short, I need a driver side door repainted. I noticed you have to take off the fender and bumper as well to do this properly.
Has anyone got a quote for a full driver side door repaint (including the labor needed to fully disassemble the parts needed)?
This would be helpful, thank you!
You don't need to take the fender off for this at all, in order to do it properly you have to take the door apart in terms of handle / belt molding / mirror. This goes for the main door youre repairing / painting and the rear door as it will have to be blended. For the fender you can have two options 1) blend the side skirt trim and leave the rest of the fender alone 2) repaint the side skirt and blend the fender. This also all depends on the color of your vehicle.
There are alot of factors that go into account here, color, paint line preference, what you want blended, how you want it done. On average I take $400 for a door and $150-200 per associated blend using PPG paint products. If it is a Three stage paint then add $50.

I did get a quote and it came out to roughly over $1500. I feel like they misunderstood what I wanted painted because they included labor for taking off the fender/bumper, as well as, including a new F emblem?
This is for the front driver side door only, and quoted at a Lexus certified collision center.

They just wrote an estimate using the software, but they also upsold you in all honesty. The removal for the bumper is to remove the headlight and the removal of the fender is absolutely pointless. The badge is technically a one time use because it is a "one time use" due to the 3M double sided tape which can easily be replaced without ordering a new badge. You can write an estimate so many different ways. There is more than enough room to blend within the panel of the fender and sideskirt.
As I said before it all comes down to preference, I always give my customers the option of how they want it done. It is a bit hard to pinpoint for you because I dont know the extent of the damage on the door, but usually its a blend on the rear door and a fender if youre painting a driver door.
They might be including the fender so they can blend it in so you don't see a distinct difference between the door and the fender. Almost impossible to get it perfect due to sun fading the paint and mixing. But I would think they would include fading it into the rear door as well.
$400 is not realistic at all. The shop will charge for every minute of labor they can.
Given that we dont know the extent of the damage on the OP's car nor do we know the color of the vehicle, I am basing it off a damage that's just a sand down / prime and refinish such as light scratch. $400 for the door along with $150-$200 per adjacent panel for a blend. Those are my general prices which I charge my customers. Granted that is a starting point price figure.
Yet again though as i said before it also comes down to material preference and method. I have had customers request Spies Hecker paint and clear coat which would increase the cost, but I also had customers request nason paint. I also had customers refuse to blend adjacent panels and simply didnt care if it didnt match.
What is not realistic is a shop trying to take a fender off to blend it haha
Let me clarify more since I reached out to discuss it further. First off the color of the car is the super white.
There were labor charges to on the fender, the front bumper and the headlight. He said they were gonna drop the front bumper and remove parts necessary to blend the fender into the front door and further into the rear door. So I did see the labor charges for the rear door as well. Let me see if I can get a picture and post the estimate on here for y'all.

Thanks!
Think of it this way. You cannot panel paint!
With today's variations in colors it's much harder. Then like yours add pearl, forget it. To make sure the color is consistent you need to blend into adjacent panels. Figure if you have a scratch/dent, and it's within 6in to the next panel you will need to blend.
Anytime you are blending/refinishing you will need to R&I all removable parts. Like removing bumper, headlamp, liner, mirror, belt molding, handle, trim etc..Figure the factory didn't paint the
car while it was assembled right!
