So here's an alternative to ripping apart the dash.

It looks cool in that shot but to use that for music or navigation, you are really taking your eyes off of the road to look down at the screen. What does it look like in the light?

I use screen mirroring combined with a Bluetooth mouse and media button and it works great. As far as ripping apart the dash, it's only about an hour of disassembly of a few parts and it goes back together in half that time.

With this setup I can still use both cupholders.

 

For on / off automation I use Autosleeper .

The way it works is by detecting charge state.

When you turn on your ignition, it starts to charge and turns on your tablet .

When you shut off your ignition, it detects discharge and shuts off your tablet .

When your car's screen is on , the tablet is on . When your car's screen is off , the tablet is off .
