Default First Lexus ever!

New to forum and no idea how this works.

Just got a 2017 GS 350, luxury package with premium sound system. It replaces my totaled 2013 BMW 535i. I pulled out my Kicker Q class 1000.1 amp and Kicker L7 sub. Car Toys estimated $650 to install the sub and amp alone. Sounded steep. Crutchfield rep told me it's impossible to just add a sub/amp to this model Lexus 2017 due to fiber optic cables used on stock stereo. Best Buy said they could do it for $300 approx, but installer never bothered to look at the car or components i had. Worrisome. I joined the forum to find out if anyone has added a sub and amp to a 2016+ yr GS 350. I plan to try a reputable car stereo place for another recommendation/quote. It's hard to believe there are thousands maybe millions of 2017 Lexus owners and none has tried to add an amp/sub. I am an audiophile but do not want to start an upgrade i Matt regret. Thanks for any suggestions or links.
I'm loving the ride of my GS, and besides sound quality, not missing my bimmer at all.

all i know is the mark levinson amp is in the trunk on the right side. definitely stick with a reputable audio place that knows how to tune systems. There are definitely not that many 2017 GS each year, only a few thousand and even less enthusiasts that would do mods on them. Hopefully you fine a good deal for installing the system but definitely show off your car.

If Lexus has a separate subwoofer amp, see how it is connected to the main amp. If it's traditional wires, and not fiber optics, you may be able to use a line-out-converter to convert the subwoofer signal into RCAs that the Kicker amp can take. If it is connected with fiber optics, you can connect the line out converter to the output of the subwoofer amp. If the main amp to subwoofer amp uses RCAs, then you can connect that straight to the Kicker amp.

Your amp may also have direct line-level inputs (allows speaker wires to be connected directly to the amp). In that case, you can take either the signal coming off of the main amp for the sub, or the signal coming off of the subwoofer amp.

These are just general suggestions as I haven't looked at the Lexus system, but I've installed a bunch of systems previously.

Yeah it's regular wires, no fiber optics. Search the forum there are member that have upgraded their audio or added subs.

I don't believe much has changed with the wiring and schematics for 2016 BUT I'd definitely go to a good place locally that specializes in these types of installs and not Best Buy...

Here's one excellent DIY write up a fellow member completed a few years ago with his '13 GS w/Mark Levinson: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...stall-4gs.html

Congrats on the new ride - definitely post up some pics of the ride and setup

I just bought my first Lexus as well. I wasn’t looking for one with mods but ending up buying with the same setup as you have. It has the kicker amp and sub already installed with dynomat in the trunk. I’ll play with it some and let you know. Just got it today
