GROM VL2 installed
Sometimes the GROM tries to use the OE for sound for CarPlay. That has more to do with the iPhone than anything. You can switch it to use CarPlay from the iPhone Lock Screen. It’s a weird but easily overcome issue.
Yup WAA is finally here. GROM promised and delivered, albeit a bit late. I tested it out yesterday in my RLX. Works great but noticed my phone got really hot just after a few minutes. Hope WAA won't kill my battery.
I know wireless projection needs to use the radios (BT and WiFi) to project to HU. I'm more concerned about the extra heat generated when wirelessly projecting. Charging will cause phone to heat up some more. That will lead to premature battery death. I do have a phone case on, maybe will try it without case.
For me I have to use Android Auto since it has a much simpler menu system. Now with WAA, this thing is even easier to use. Just start the car and it automatically connect to AA. Joystick in my RLX is PITA to operate in standalone mode. Wasn't so bad with Lexus RT mouse. I couldn't care less for never version unless Android 12 bring something new to the table. Update from 7>8.1 had bunch of bugs don't want to deal with that again. Plus GROM will probably charge for updates. What a fiasco that turned out to be.
Hey ya'll!
Fellow GS owner and recently picked up a Vline after seeing Memorial Day discount on Grom's website. Arrived just in time for the weekend to install in my 2016 GS 350 NAV.
This thread is extremely helpful and I appreciate not only Grom offering a solution like the Vline to upgrade our infotainment experience but also fellow owners sharing tips, resources, and experiences! With lots of patience and due diligence, install was straightforward and everything seems to be working right out of the box. Haven't had a chance to test the unit while driving but so far, very exciting!
I am curious to hear from fellow owners on a few things from a long term ownership perspective:
1. I have the unit in the glovebox and notice it gets warm like any device when in use. I haven't seen any posts mention any issues regarding cooling but curious to hear if anyone has experienced any related issues/quirks. I plan on taking a long road trip in the near future and am curious how this unit holds up under extended periods of driving.
2. Has anyone experienced any issues in terms of parasitic draw when the car is left sitting for several days? I drive less frequently compared to pre-pandemic.

1. Glovebox is fine and is where GROM recommended. This is where most of us have VL2 mounted. Don't stash it away somewhere you can't get to. On my previous unit, I had 3x BSOD to required wire harness to be pulled for hard reboot. I was pretty solid after first year of use. My second unit in my RLX is even more stable. Not a single issue since installation.
2. No problems here with parasitic draw. My RLX sits in garage for weeks at a time. Never an issue starting the car. The unit should completely power down after 20 minutes or so. If you're still concerned, get a Battery Tender.
