Default Just installed!

Purchased the Grom VLine 2 and after about three weeks of waiting, I finally received it! I installed it on my ‘17 RX 350 and I like it so far. It’s not without faults tho, on startup, the screen turns pink and it takes about one to two minutes for CarPlay to be up and ready to go. Phone audio quality is terrible…still. I’ll try to include some photos here but, initially, I tried to route the receiver into my storage console but I couldn’t get the cup holders to budge. I didn’t like how much space it took up in the glove box, it also made it harder to open and close so I put it under my all weather mats…for now. I tried to fit it in the storage cubby on the passenger side but it wouldn’t fit there either. Lastly, I was able to route the usb plug into my center console storage area.

Two questions

Anyone know the dev and/or Beta PIN?

Has anyone found a way to have the car auto connect to an iPhone hotspot without going to the hotspot screen? Hotspot via usb doesn’t seem to be supported by the grom.

Last couple weeks I’ve been having an issue where I drive certain areas and my music suddenly cuts on and off constantly for about 10-15 seconds until suddenly it stops completely and Grom/CarPlay freezes for minutes and I eventually have to reconnect my phone again. Wtf? Again, it does this every time I drive by certain areas now where I had no issues before. And it’s only these certain parts of roads, other than that it works perfectly fine. Could it be a Bluetooth issue with Grom? Is there a way I can improve the signal? Because when this happens I usually just quickly switch to the factory UI’s BT audio and it’s still working fine.

I’m about to contact Grom as well. This is very odd and unacceptable for a kit so expensive. Hope this can get fixed fairly easy. I’m thinking about updating my Vline but don’t really think it would solve such a bizarre issue like that.

I would update to the latest version to eliminate any bugs. They will ask you to do that first either way.

They responded pretty quick and asked me to update like you said they would lol. So I updated both Vline and the firmware and not only did the problem still occur at the same spots on the road, the backup camera not turning on issue I posted on here months ago when I first got the kit is also back and will not turn on at all anymore with VLine. Also, I tried WIRED CarPlay on the same stretch of road about 10 mins later and the song skipped for only about 3 seconds until CarPlay froze and bricked my whole screen until I turned off the car. Wouldn’t even let me see the screen when I hit the radio and media buttons. Well my car is a 2013 and those seem to have the most issues with this kit so maybe it wasn’t meant to be. I just told Grom all of this and will have to see what they say on Monday. But honestly I’m over this kit lol

Really unfortunate because it was working pretty much flawless for a couple months after I got the original backup camera issue resolved. Now I regret the purchase

Looks like they’re gonna send me a new unit, so that’s good news. $600 for something plagued with issues and only lasted 4 months is unacceptable. Hopefully it was just a defective unit and I won’t have to deal with these signal/backup camera issues on my new one

also going to be a pain taking everything apart to remove my current unit to send back to them and then installing the new one again

Latest update causes backup camera to not show up when you're in the Grom interface. I sent a ticket out to Grom so they can resolve this issue.

My replacement unit came today, brand new and in box. I want to sell it for $600 + shipping. SKU is LEX7VL2. GROM has it listed on their site for $660 now, the price went up lol.
