Am I able to use any WiFi antenna to replace the small antenna Grom uses?

 

Yes, I use a remote antenna, mounted on my windshield behind the Rear view mirror

Hey guys. I just installed the vl2 today, and I'm loving it. It was definitely needed to upgrade the outdated infotainment system on the GS F.

I've updated to the latest firmware and downloaded the GApps to get access to the Google Play store. From there I've downloaded YouTube, and Spotify.

There are 70+ pages in this thread.. so I haven't gone thru all of the posts but what do you guys to download to get the most out of the VL2?

I'd just get Google Maps, Waze and a few music streaming apps. That's all you really need.

 

I have just discovered Grom Vline2. I tried to keep up with all the forum postings.

Is it SAFE to say that ALL the Bugs have been fixed on the VLine2? If not what bugs/issues are left to be still addressed?

The OS on the VLine2....is it going to stay Android 8?
I read that Netflix won't operate anymore? Will the Folks at Grom be updating the Android OS in the future to keep up to date that Apps work correctly?

I was going to get Beatsonic until I came across Grom Vline2.
The price is hefty....but willing to make the purchase if this is a good buy...that will last.

My GSF is not a daily driver...and I've been holding out on an Android Auto Module

Nothing is bug-free. But grom is very good with updates to fix most issues. Mine has been rock solid. Not a single issue since install. But I now have an Acura RLX. Had 3 BSOD when I had the Lexus. Seems more stable towards the end before I sold the car.

There was talk of grom moviing to Android 11. But no ETA yet. If you sidelioad older version of Netflix it will still work.

 

Mine is rock solid as well. Not bug free, but nothing noticeable for months.

 

My install has been great a few bugs but they get to them pretty fast. Best thing I bag tell you is if you absolutely need CarPlay to be perfect every single day of the week, don't install any apps or GApps. One I stopped doing that the VL2 had been perfect. Some Android apps don't pay fair and can cause issues, since the VL2 is using Android in a non standard way. Most auto OEMs that have Android Auto out Carplay do not allow other apps for this reason

 

Does anyone know why “waiting CarPlay UI” takes forever? Sometimes it wouldn’t even connect and I have to “tap to connect” again.

 

It has been a bit inconsistent for me at times as well. A variety of things seem to resolve it short term. Unlock the phone usually works for me. Otherwise a full grom and phone reboot seems to resolve it for a period of time.

 

Is that more an Apple issue, rather than anything related to GROM? I'm using Wireless Android Auto. Start the car, WAA pops up in 10sec every time. No issues, no hang-ups.

 

Very well could be. I don't have an android phone to test with, or I would try it out.

 

I have my phone to auto join the Vlines hotspot when it is open. with one phone in the car using wireless CarPlay it is very fast. I do have issue when there are two phones that can connect to wireless CarPlay. I have my wife's phone setup as wells mine, so we can switch in the car as needed, or if she drives by herself.

 

I had same problem, I was leaving the lightning cable plugged into my vline2, even when I wasn’t using the wired connection ( no phone plugged in). Once I removed this cable from the plug my wireless CarPlay connection troubles went away. Any chance you are doing the same thing? I think the lightning cable might have a small chip or resistor that indicates it’s presence to the vline and this confuses the unit.
just a theory but worked for me. Let me know if this fixes yours.
