Firmware update
I apologize in advance if this has already been answered. I search on this forum and online and couldn't find an answer. I even called my local Lexus dealership and left a message - no call back.
I currently have a 2013 GS 350 AWD F Sport. I was wondering if there is a firmware update available for my car, not a NAV one. If so, where can I get it updated? And, how much does it usually cost?
Thanks,
MB

Nothing in particular. I'm just one those guys that like to have every electronic device up to date and was wondering if there is a firmware update out there for my car, and if there is, what issues/new features does it have...
Im sure youve heard the term "if it aint broke dont fix it", well this goes double for cars.
A member on here recently updated his cars electronics with a new firmware now his car tells him "Please dont shut off car, hard drive is restarting" constantly. Yea...better leave well enough alone as you will not gain much from doing firmware updates.
That usually happens when you are running non-native apps (3rd party apps). I am hoping that if Lexus releases a new firmware update that it spent time testing before it's ready for mainstream use...

Every navigation map update has both firmware updates and grace notes updates. Most dealers don't know to check for those, so you have to ask them to look. I went in the car with the tech when I bought a maps update 2 years ago.
The dealers and Lexus claim the update on my car from 2012 is the most current. I find that quite doubtful but multiple dealers claim the same thing. The only option I'm aware of is to pay for a map update to get every possible update.
IMO, control modules for that have firmware such as the ECM, power steering, traction control, driver assist are very stable and require minimal to absolutely no upgrades. Serious engineering, time and resources, was put in developing the firmware and hardware of these components and thoroughly tested and validated, hence the Lexus quality. If an update is required, I believe a TSB would have been issued.
I think he was mostly talking about the information system, bluetooth, etc. I have had tons of problems with bluetooth on both Android and iOS and figured Samsung (who makes our head units) would put out an update, but it seems like that isn't the case. Though when you ask people what version of firmware they are on, you'll find wildly different numbers, but the dealerships claim my car is up to date and yet on the lower side of the REV #.
I've given up until I buy a map update, if ever.

The latest firmware version for the GS is V15A8872. My 2015 GS was out of date. I doubt your GS is up to date. You don't have to pay for a map update to get the firmware update. However they may charge you to update the firmware version. Next time you go in, have them check Tech Tip L-TT-0121-13
