Default Interior mirror not dimming?

Last week I noticed my interior mirror was not dimming. It was turned on, the light on mirror was illuminated....so were the headlights behind me.

Has anyone else had their interior mirror's dimming function stop working? Anything I can check out prior to taking it to the dealer?

Thanks.

Is your rear sunshade up? I leave mine up always and it does lesson the mirrors dimming. It did the same on my previous ES too. At night with the shade up and cars behind you lower the sunshade and you'll see the mirrors start to dim more. That shade decreases headlight brightness just enough to effect mirror dimming.

Nope, no sunshade up. However, thanks for the tip, I might use that at night until it gets fixed!

Try shining a flashlight directly at the mirror to see if it reacts.

Yep, tinted windows (still state legal though). I'll try the flashlight test tonight.

That's what it is. Tinted windows interfere with the amount of light reaching the sensors, and thus keep the mirrors from dimming as much or as often as they would otherwise.

Yep, it dims with a flashlight pointed at it. BTW, a LED flashlight also causes my Valentine 1 to register a laser alarm!
Thx

Glad the flashlight proved the mirror dimming to be working correctly. The window film, while cutting down on light transmission, is obviously making your mirror dimming a bit less than your desire. Not much you can do about that...
