Thanks to all your input from my other post I spoke with my dealer about getting an FSport ordered if they did not have one with the options I wanted. Pretty simple really as I just want it loaded. All the new toys the 14's come with including the power trunk, all the rear cross traffic alert/assist stuff, and especially the color HUD. There lies the issue I guess as they can't find one anywhere and he's saying it could take up to 4-6 months to order the car and get it here?? Does this sound right? I have ordered quite a few cars in my day but have never had one take that long EVER! Maybe things have changed over in Japan lately as I have not ordered a Japanese car in a long time, but honestly I have a hard time believing it would take that long. 2-3 maybe, 4 possibly including shipping it here. Anyone go through this?
OR does anyone even have the color HUD on a 2014 yet??? Power trunk?? I did notice there not listed on the Lexus "build your own"web site so maybe its a late availability thing?
It could take 4 months or longer unless they issue a CTP order on the line. Even then that just shaves off a month or so. Change To Production is an inline modification to a current build or one that is in the que to be built in the current production run. It's not unusual for BMW's and other foreign manufacturer orders to be 3+ months for a custom order.
I think the HUD models require a different dash top as well as the hardware needed for the HUD. Can anyone without the HUD confirm if there is a plug or panel where the HUD should be?
Can't really add anything of substance to this thread, but just want to chime in and complain about the lead time for special orders and the fact that there are no HUDs in any car on any Lexus dealer's lot (except for the one cancelled special order in some obnoxious color). Would have loved to get a '14 with HUD, and even wait a reasonable amount of time for it if they would still apply the current promos/negotiate the price at the time of order and not the delivery date.
I've already mentioned this before on this site, but I have been told that it takes 2 - 4 months for a custom order.
I walked away from my first custom order, but had I taken the car it would have taken exactly 2.5 months to get it (order placed 9/29 and vehicle arrive 12/11). I'm on my 2nd custom order right now but I'm only a little over a month in.
I had to custom order to get the cold weather package on a RWD vehicle.
I also figured that a custom order would probably be necessary to get the power trunk as well.
I would have considered getting the HUD but there is no way for me to test it out first and I'm not willing to take a $900 gamble.
I specialed ordered mine. I wanted the PCS so it was a special order. It wasn't really a big deal for me. I knew it would be a custom order and I planned ahead. I wanted the car at the end of April/early May (past the winter), so I ordered mine in late January. (i think the 20th) I got the car in late May. Its not a bad way to go if you don't need the car right away. You get what you want and what you don't want. The waiting is annoying because you want your new toy. But other then that you know your going to get exactly what you want.
Some dealers won't wiggle on the price because it is a special order. Mine did and I feel like I got a good deal for what it was.
My 13 GS took 16 weeks to arrive - about a month of that was in transit.
I wasn't thrilled about waiting that long, but I wanted specific options, and the only way to get them was a custom order; there weren't any demos with these options either. Basically, I wanted all the factory options except the ML, HUD and heated rear seats. I was considering the night vision, but if you got that, you couldn't have LKA, which I really wanted. I see NV Is not even available this year.
If you're going to spend this kind of money, you really should get the car you want. I've had mine a bit over a year, and the only thing I might have changed would be adding the HUD.
