Just took delivery of '15 F-Sport RWD. I wanted the power trunk option but could not find one near me so ended getting one without it. Since it is only a $400 option, I wonder if someone here had attempted to find out what's involved.
Been down that road before lol. Some of us '13 owners in the US feel slighted at the omission of the power trunk. While it can theoretically be done, it is largely cost prohibitive. Here are some diagrams from MyLParts (RIP Sewell Lexus ) http://www.mylparts.com/parts/2014/L...iagram=8947670
Didn't know the part site existed! Thanks for that. But $1000 for an electric actuator? WOW.... that's not right...
I believe the power trunk option is priced at $400...installed of course. That $1,300 List Price part probably has a Lexus/Toyota inventory cost from the vendor of $70 to $200.
Various sources over the years have determined that all parts purchased individually for a typical car would total 6 to over 30 times the car maker's MSRP price of the car...and that would not include the labor cost to build the car with all those individual parts.
Quick question. It’s powered both ways (opening and closing) and not just for opening. Correct?
Yes, but only the button inside the trunk lid does both close and open. The button near the driver's seat only opens, as does the button on the outside to the right of the license plate.
You can double-click the outside button to just unlock the trunk (if you want to open it manually, quickly, and not wait for the motor to do it slowly).
What parts from that list exactly would we need? Is there something different on the 15'GS then a 13GS?
I don't think there would be any difference in the mechanical parts. It's the extra wiring, bracket and button in the trunk area that would be needed. Along with the motor of course. If I saw the actual option wired up, I could probably retrofit it but not if it'll cost me over $1000 to just buy the parts.
