I attempted to update the software with the car in the garage. I saw a progress report but in the end I got a message that the update failed. Suspecting that this happened because of poor coverage in the garage, I tried again outside, in a large parking lot. To my surprise I got a message saying “The new software cannot be read. Please check that the disk or USB flash drive contains the correct software “. Obviously, the previous update attempt resulted in a corrupted download, but how do I get out of this and get a correct download?

What are you trying to update? The Navigation Maps? The Lexus Enform Apps?

I am talking about the system software:
Menu > Setup > General > Software update
I got my car on 3/22, one day after it was delivered to the dealership; nonetheless a software update was already available.
Why display an "update failed" message ("The new software cannot be read. Please check that the disk or USB flash drive contains the correct software") rather than "no update available" or something similar?
This is by design...there is not a software update so it gives an error message.
It said that there was an update; I clicked on going ahead with the update and then there was a progress bar moving from 10% to 20% etc. The problem is that, in the end, it said that the update failed. And, as I mentioned, any attempt to update gives an error message.
i dont think it would let you do the update unless its done by the dealer via usb or dvd ... all lexus navigations systems do this ...
mrcheerio, it makes sense that only the dealer is allowed to update the software, and (obviously) this is how I will get out of the predicament. And, if this is the case, then petek22 is also right when he says that this is by design.
However, if this is the case then Lexus should just indicate the availability of a software update, without inviting the owner to proceed with the update.
