I'm looking to find out what type of oil most of you run in your cars. ,and how many miles you go. I just bought a 2011 GS 350 and want to run synthetic in it.
I run Mobil one Full synthetic in all my other cars and go 7 thousand miles between changes...is this OK with the Lexus ? Or...should I only go 5 thousand miles?

 

Many will disagree with me, but for synthetic I wouldn't go past 4k. There are others especially on the 4GS forum that are talking about 10k mile oil changes. 3GS and 4GS share basically almost the same engine in that the piston and rings are the same part number. Certain number of 3GS members have had oil burning issues, the majority of these people run synthetic at high miles.

To me the sooner you do an oil change the better, oil looks golden once poured it into the engine if you ran that engine for a day it will become darker, if you ran it longer the color would become darker aswell. That darkness is carbon, soot, metals, etc. These contaminants are what clog oil seep holes throughout the engine, especially the pistons where you have tiny holes that flow into the oil control rings. Once those oil control rings get gummed up with carbons, it locks in a compressed state and then it allows that oil to flow past the rings.

The newer generation claim these newer more expensive oils have better detergents that clean these deposits. I am sure many are good but for me thats too risky to allow it to go that far. I run a synthetic blend castrol gtx and I only run at 3k miles. Maybe over kill to some, but a whole lot better to have cleaner oil, with less carbons in my engine.

Just good ol' Mobil 1 synthetic every 5k for me. I also use Redline SL-1 fuel system cleaner every other oil change, just before changing it. Is it necessary? Probably not, but the car is still as smooth and quiet as it could possibly be.

It's a matter of preference. I ran Eneos oil and the Mazda 0w20 with moly in my IS200t. Changed at 10k. I also ran Eneos oil in my '14 Mazda 6, change that at 15k per UOA. You'll find a lot of good info from the website lottadik posted. It's important to do the UOA if you want to derive from the manufacture oil change interval.

I'm running Castrol Full Synthetic 5w30 in my GS300. I'm was not going to waste the good stuff on an engine that burns oil every 1500k. Top off at 3k and change the oil at 5k.

 

I use only Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5-30. Yes, Mobil does guarantee it to 15,000 miles. Yes, I do change it every 4,000-5,000 miles anyway. And I use the Lexus 04152-YZZA5 filter on Amazon, from Lexus. I have the same GS350 you have, 2011. My mechanic tells me it isn't so much the oil that makes a difference in the engine resides as much as it is the gas that I use. So that's why I use only BP 93 octane premium or 92 Shell V-Tek.

Last time I changed the oil, the oil came out nearly as clear as I had put it in. Also about every third tank, I use the STP fuel injector cleaner.

 

This is the misconception. Oil should not be as nearly clear when coming out. It means it's not doing its job in trapping all the containment.

 

agree....Mobil 1 Full synthetic....great oil. Fuel system cleaner.... I talked to a Lexus service manager right before I bought the car.... He told me that they use BG44 fuel treatment there at his dealership on customers cars..... They charge $200 for that treatment. I'm gonna buy some on Amazon and try it

 

$200 for a service whereas the part alone is about $20. I now know why they're called Stealerships

 

I chose Redline over BG44K because of the PEA content. So far I've used 4 bottles since purchasing the car, and have nothing but good things to say about it. Before purchasing BG44K, take a look at Redline Sl-1.

Wait what? I thought bg44k had a decent concentration of PEA as well. I should read up.

Using amsoil's PI here because redline is almost impossible to get in Bulgaria (motor oil aside - 5w30 at 6k miles).
