Default Oil change how often?

Not a mechanic just from my personal xp I feel that 10k miles is a long time not change the oil. I understand these are new cars and its synthetic oil. Is everyone changing their oil every 10k miles or every 5-8k? Just want to see whats best for the car obviously.

I changed mine after one year with 4500 miles. The dealer suggested I wait as long as 18 months or 10000 miles. I don't drive it that much so I guess I'll stay on a once a year schedule.

I am using the OEM recommended schedule.

Some interesting info:
Lexus FAQ: What are the oil change intervals using synthetic oil?

Only Lexus vehicles in which 0w-20 synthetic oil is required have been approved for extended oil change intervals of 10,000-miles/12-months. (However, you should continue to check the oil level regularly and top off if needed. That will help your engine get the full benefit of synthetic oil.Vehicles in which 0w-20 is an option to 5w-20 mineral oil, (or 5w-30), will continue to require 5,000-mile/6-month oil change intervals, even if 0w-20 oil is used.

In the case of vehicles with 10,000 mile oil change intervals, the 5,000 mile service interval has not been eliminated. The traditional 5,000 mile maintenance procedures (such as tire rotation) will continue to be required, and the fluid levels (such as brake fluid) will need to be checked and adjusted at this time.

If the vehicle operation meets the standard criteria for "Special Operating Conditions" such as: driving off-road, on dirt roads, towing a trailer, making repeated short trips under 32˚F, or extensive idling; the engine oil must be replaced at 5,000 mile intervals, regardless of what type of oil is used.

I'm thinking whatever the dealer says is fine...but there definetly isn't any harm in changing every 5k miles just to be safe. 0w20 for the f sport full synthetic only.

When i bought the car, they had already done the 5,000 service. So when it reached 10,000 about a month ago, i did another oil change. (at no cost)

Does anyone know how much they charge if i take it in for the 15,000 service?

Simple. Just take it to toyota dealer and tell them exactly what you want done (manual recommendation) and type of oil you want. Watch them change it and pay less than $80 for a service.

The rediculous amounts Lexus, Bmw, Mercedes, Audi charge over there lesser brand is to fund their rental cars, iPad usage, Internet, snack bars, free drinks, fancy bathrooms and such.

That first 5k service didn't include an oil change. The first oil change our car was scheduled for was at 10k, which we just had done recently. My service advisor said he'd see us in 5k. Didn't push the issue of the 5k or 10k to him, because quite honestly, probably wont be taking it back to Lexus for simple over priced Lexus oil changes. I do my own on my 2011 IS. My 2011 takes the 0W20 oil but my 2010 took I think 5W20, weird. But I have never waited til 10k to change my oil, changed at every 5k or as my cars service light suggests.

Oh and 1 more thing, our cars take about 7 Qts of oil. So take synthetic oil times 7 and an oil filter for piece of mind and there you have it. Costco sells the 0W20 oil, btw. I often find better prices, with a filter, at auto zone etc.

What if you don't drive very much and haven't hit 5000miles in 9 months? Is there a time frame that synthetic should be changed out for low miles vehicles?

My car is still under warranty and I dont want this to be a sticking point....

I also do not drive much, but the recommended schedule says 10k/1 year whichever comes first.

I only had 4800 miles after a year. Dealer said I could wait to 15 months to change it.

Lexus of Orlando charges $60 for the 5,000 mile intervals and $130 for the 10,000 oil change intervals. I'm not sure where the $400 figure comes in to play.
