I don't have it, is it something you could swap in? Is it a real big deal? The base sound is not bad, but could always be better.

Not really a direct swap. You would need the amp and all the ML speakers. Probably best to upgrade your existing speakers and upgrade to an aftermarket amp.

Sounds like I can do better with aftermarket stuff.

Completely agree! It will be more cost effective and better performance if you choose your own favorite aftermarket rather than trying to retrofit the ML system in. Keep in mind, you will likely not reach the full potential of the aftermarket speakers utilizing the stock head unit. I understand options are limited for swapping that out. Seems like currently the Android Tesla style unit is the most popular. But figured it was worth noting if you're an audiophile in the least.

Read a thread in the 4th gen that many feel the stock system may be as good or better than the ML. I guess YMMV. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...r-than-ml.html.
I mean, it is not horrible, but there could always be better.

Yeah, the Android system is a very nice upgrade, I have a 2DIN one in another car. The stock NAV is nothing to write home about either. Voice recognition is almost useless in some cases. For the price of two worthless nav updates you can have the Tesla Android.

You'll not only have to swap the amps and speakers, you'll have to swap the wiring harness along with it.

It's a much bigger pain to go from Base==>ML.

All while the base system lasts longer than the ML, sound is much crisper than the ML, but it DOES lack bass and details on certain notes compared to the ML.

Like others have posted, it's MUCH MUCH better option to just drive an aftermarket system.

The base stereo in the 4th gen GS sounds great. I was very surprised when I took one out for the evening.

.
In other words, for modern audio (32/65K satellite, ripped mp3s, compression, even FM etc) the ML system could actually make it sound worse.
