Unhappy GS 300 - Transmission Problem (or not?)

Hi everybody,
I'm new here, also new at lexus so Need help cause think I've got a problem ..
recently bought lexus gs 300 2006, and whenever I put the gearbox into "S" it shows that gear is 4th, it works good but sometimes while lunch, it jerks.
So could you tell me if it's normal to show 4th gear in every situation in "s" mode?
even when I stand and move gear to "s" it shows 4th ..
Hope to get help, It kills me

Why are you putting it into S, is that the mode for shifting on your own? How does it act in D?

It's normal both GS and IS +at least the ones I have drive) when switched to tiptronic or "S" it goes to 4th gear and you have to shift to first if you are in a stop light.

That's normal. The transmission will decide based on your speed what gear it should go into when you shift into S mode.
Your car is 5 speed?

Having owned several sports coupes with manual trannys I would never place my GS in "S" mode.

But that's just me. On the issue of the transmission, I suggest driving it in normal automatic mode. I've had no issues with my GS.

Thanks guys for your answers, I've just bought it and tested with "s" and etc..

But,
It has problem even in "D" mode .. it's too hard to start slowly from traffic lights, rpm goes on 2 but car doesn't go as it should be, than jerks and goes perfectly

I understand that shouldn't put in "S" but, what have I to do with "D" ???

Did the previous owner(s) keep maintenance records (Carfax etc..)? Unfortunately some owners will patch a major costly issue with a vehicle before doing a quick sale.

At any rate, If you're still encountering a problem in regular drive mode I'd first get a fluid flush with fingers crossed. Also, do some more digging on this website. I recall reading a thread about transmissions and some troubleshooting remedies. Sorry I can't recall which one.

OK 6 speed.. that makes sense.
The default gear is 4th for sport mode. You'e OK

Your clunks are from your rear diff bushings. Not your transmission.
Lexus transmissions are bullet proof.
