Can someone confirm if their trunk auto -swings open when you release the trunk? Thanks

 

not sure about other models but on the gs300 it doesn't swing open it just disengages from the lock and remains down.

 

Not only does it not auto swing open, it's among the heaviest trunk lid of any car I've ever owned.

 

It is heavy without the lift supports helping out. I think the heaviest that I've felt is the 1st gen SC. That will knock you out cold.

But back to the OP question. It just pops open. Doesn't auto swing like some of the newer Lexus.

 

hah. yeah. But they saved 1 cu.ft by not using gooseneck hinges. Not that it matters, because the trunk opening is small as hell.
Can't even fit office equipment in the hole. Have to put it on my back seat

Also, if you don't hold the handle on the inside of the trunk lid, it bangs open and puts stress on the struts.

 

Thanks for confirming. lexus really took a step back here. Even the 04 ES330 trunk swings half open when released and is very light.

 

My 07 GS350 feels really heavy also. Was thinking if changing out the lift supports would help. it seems like they are bad but I'm not sure if that is what is making it so heavy or not.

 

The tailgate on my truck is easier to operate than my GS460 trunk lid !!!!
