Default Trunk Question

Does anyone know if the trunk springs open when you push the trunk release button? Mine doesnt... it just pops and stays in the nearly closed position... however, I have a 2006 ES loaner vehicle and when I pop the trunk, it springs open nicely. I wish the IS did that...

I think thats normal...mine does that too, and so does the other IS trunks from what I've seen.

I second (or third) that. It does not open all the way.

It's normal. Perhaps they'll upgrade the trunk feature in the future with the auto open/close option? That would be nice...

Agreed, auto open would be nice but I doubt they will ever make a auto close trunk, mainly for safety reasons similar to "auto closing windows".

I think the reason why the springs are so weak is so that you can pull it closed from the handle inside the trunk lid without having to touch the painted surface. If the springs were strong enough to raise the trunk lid automatically, it would be harder to close without touching the paint.

Auto closing is also on many of the other luxury Benz and Masserattis... as far as I've seen them in person.

The Auto open feature that's not on the IS saved me once from a terrible mishap... I parked the car under a parking structure, and I backended it into the spot... above the trunk is a storage area, if it had opened automatically, it would hit the storage and scratched the car. (I accidentally hit the trunk instead of my footwell lights)

OK. Let's not forget, Lexus was going directy after the Germans with this car, just look at any page in the brochure, they were all shot in Germany. As an owner of more than a few German Cars previous to the Lexus, I can tell you that the German Car trunks do not 'spring' open upon release. It is my opnion that this trunk operates this way because it is in character with the general opearation of German and European Cars.
