Where do you park? I guess it's the cool factor.
I know I'm late as hell but for people who live and park in urban areas (i.e. street parking) the folding in of mirrors is pretty essential. Can't always try to present your own experiences as the end all be all of circumstances.

Default Got it to work (kinda)

So I finally started to work on this project as I think it adds a ton of modernity to the 3GS, and thats what I'm all about. I followed the guides pretty well, and also on another thread I found one for 08/09 written out instructions that were easy to follow with color coded diagrams and such. I got the drivers side to work properly, but when I did the passengers side, the manual fold mirrors button in the dropout panel next to steering wheel only folds the drivers mirror, with the passenger not being controlled by the button anymore. The passenger side seemed okay until I started driving and the "door lock after 13mph" function hit, and the passenger side folded in. My workaround is to hit the unlock button and the passenger mirror folds back out, but I have to keep al my door unlocked and it gets annoying after a while to remember to hit unlock.

What works:
-Key unlock/lock folds both mirrors in/out (awesome!!)
-mirror fold button controls the drivers side mirror
-all mirror adjustments (left, right, up down)
-mirror-down on reverse
-auto-dimming mirrors
-heated mirrors

What doesn't work:
-mirror fold button now doesn't fold passenger side
-door lock folds passenger side in (unwanted)

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I did wrong??

Attached video for awesomeness. It does look very cool honestly I love the feature a lot, just wish I could iron out the abovementioned kinks.

There was a large lawsuit over that and car makers stopped doing that for safety reasons.

How true this is, I never gained enough interest to find out.......

On another note, I'd love to, like you, get the metal gears for a replacement as I've been using my mirrors A LOT more now than I use to .
I call BS AS MY 2008 bmw 535xi has auto closing windows and sunroof using the key fob !
