Default Engine noise on 350

When at a stop light or standing outside of the car while its parked do you guys notice that the engine noise is particular loud? Almost sounds like a diesel truck, is this normal?

LOL I love your name! My GS450h sounds remarkably like a diesel, too (on a gradual acceleration). I know we have different engines, but the engineering behind them is pretty much the same. I really started to notice it about 3 years ago and immediately had the Valve Spring Recall done. No change after that.

My engine then blew up (broken rocker arm directly associated with a bad execution of the valve spring work) and I had it completely rebuilt. It still sounds exactly the same *sigh*

I just run synthetic oil and change it every 5000kms. It's a little excessive, but I hope for the best. I'm glad someone else has finally noticed this problem.

6 Direct injectors... 6 port injectors... Clicking away...

Enjoy! Its normal.
2GR-FSE's use the D4-S injection system. Low RPM's its really noisy because of the timing.

Wow that's insane your engine blew. Talk about bad luck.

mine sounds the same. the valve spring recall was done. I pulled up all the service record done at Tustin Lexus as well. the only other thing I can think of making the noise are the coil packs, unless these cars don't have them. my svt lightning makes the same noice, it's the coil packs as well, never had an issue and I run full syn. engine oil. the blower whine distracts me enough to not care-

Is it louder when cold - or more pronounced under acceleration when hot or cold?

No difference whether hot or cold, still sounds the same even when I get home from work.

That's a good thing. Most likely a combination of the fuel injectors and valve-train noise.

I was curious about this right after I bought my '10 GS 350 back in October. I went in search of the sound as well, stumbled upon this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...-engine-2.html

Appears to be totally normal, I don' t really care for it - since you can hear it in the cabin when the radio and AC are quiet, but it still drives like a dream.

I have a Lexus ES350 and a IS350C. They both make the same noise. It does sound like a diesel engine when idling and makes what we used to call a "pinking noise" in first gear at slow speeds. My wife took her ES350 to the dealership and they just said, "Oh they all make that noise." though they did not tell her why.
