I'm interested to hear from owners of this vehicle. I'm seriously considering purchasing one, and I want to get some feedback from people who currently own this car. The one I want to purchase is what appears to be a "fully loaded" model with nav and mark levinson. It's listed at a dealership for $18,100 has a completely clean Carfax record and has 72,000 miles. This is below KBB and I'm just wondering what problems could be lurking with this vechicle that make the offer too good to be true. The only thing I notice is that the tires seem like they may coming due to be replaced.

Any feedback would be quite helpful.

 

Mine (06 GS AWD) has been great for the last year since I got it and the only repair has been a cracked exhaust pipe weld near one of the o2 sensors. I am in the Northeast - so salt gets trapped in areas like that.

Beyond that there has been a recall that could be major for the car. It seems that the 3 liter V6 is direct injected and there were some carbon build up issues with it. The car could have an intermittent rough idle and high oil consumption if affected. Lexus has extended the warranty and covers them still.

Great car so far.

 

Sean, thanks! I'm in the Northeast too...northern NYC suburbs, so I need something that'll at least be decent in the snow. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for yours last year and what was the mileage? Do you think $18,100 is a good price?

 

I payed 19K a year ago last October with 81K on the clock in Southern NH. I am well over 100K now.

18.1K I believe is a good price for a pristine car with a known history. Mine came with new tires/rotors and pads but I was shown it first with the old parts intact. There was no uneven wear on the tires. About the only blemish is the corrosion on the rims and all Toyotas seem prone to this up here...

 

Fantastic. I've decided to bring a mechanic with me on the test drive just to be safe. The dealer is about 30 miles from where I live, so I just wanted to interact with a current owner before I drove that far out of my way. Your feedback has been really helpful, especially since you were in almost the exact same spot a year ago.

 

Sean87Supr hit the nail on the head. I think that's a good price for the year/ mileage as long as it's had its services done. That recall is about the only issue I can think of on these cars. These things are beasts in the snow.

 

I got my 06 GS300 AWD w/ 37,000 on it last month in the NE fopr $23k...I love this car and it performed great in snow so far for me

 

The negative!
1: Priced too high for the car
2: 2006 Has carbon buildup issues, I would stay away and do 07-up
3: If you plan on lowering the car I would stay away from AWD, you will have vibrations.

 

Man, you should do a search, there's a bunch of feedbacks for 06's. But I guess I'll repeat myself AGAIN.

I have a 06 and it was reliable as bleep, I went +300,000km on it and it was running very smooth still, I could even go much more but she ended in a sad way

If you want to spend a bit more you can get 07 with faster engine and better nav. But if that's not important than 06 will do just fine.

@ibidu1 I never had no buildup carbon issues.

Everything minor ie. Oil change,brakes etc was done at home. The only big thing that was replaced at the dealer was my a wheel hub and a steering rack because I hit something. Besides that, this GS can go for a longgggggggggg time.

 

I have a 2010 RWD and a 2006 AWD. 2010 is faster, but the 2006 is definitely not slow. In fact the AWD is my daily driver of the two. Nav is better on the 2010.

The 2006 AWD has been very reliable. Haven't really had to do anything other than scheduled maintenance. I had it shipped to Germany this year while I am working here, and it has handled everything the German winter has thrown at it with ease. I never get stuck in the snow or slide around on ice, and I drive around in pure comfort even if it is freezing outside. Can't say enough about this car.

 

I have five cars now and previosly owned Q45,525,525,GS300(1 series),E320,...This is the only car I would by again and my current one is my second.
