Default Simple fixes for supposedly huge problems

For those of you who have followed my whining posts about my grotesquely unreliable 07 GS350 you may recall that aside from minor issues like a blown engine, I've had lots of electrical and body hardware issues with the car.

Lexus has claimed that there was nothing wrong with the car until RIGHT when the 4 year warranty expired (Actually for mileage).

Here's the issues:

Radio cutting in and out
Nav Screen cutting in and out
Mirrors have a mind of their own
Sunroof rattles.

Now, these **** me off to no end, so I decided, WTF, I'll try and fix them myself. Well, guess what we found so far? (This really is rich...)

Sunroof:

Quoted thousands and thousands to replace the sunroof cassette.

Fix? Turns out one of our salesmen at the store I am at today used to be a Lexus tech... So he went and played with my car because it's dead. That $4,000+++ repair? He managed to tighten some fasteners.

The Nav screen and stereo cutting out? Well, apparently when they did the dash anti-rattle they didn't tighten a connector at the back of the radio properly.

Mirrors? He's seen the problem before on an 06 GS300, looks like replacing the driver's mirror will fix it, which I have to do anyways.

Now if I can just get the "auto" wipers to actually work right we're onto something....

Oh, what did I owe him? He refused payment, so I slipped him $150, made his day.

Lucky you, Sir.

Not sure what he fixed with the sunroof, I keep meaning to ask him.

Oh, my maddening mirror issue that Lexus said wasn't a problem? 2 Junkyard mirrors and its fixed. The mirrors were defective.

You know, all it takes is a mechanic/tech/parts guy, whatever, that is worth his salt to make it all work. I love hearing stories like this.

You are one of the reason why I swapped out my water pump. When I heard you blew your engine and had to go out of pocket to fix it, I said F that. Sometimes it's best to learn from others, so thank you for posting stuff like this. Keep it up!

I've come to the conclusion that my dealer quotes me ridiculous hours and cost to keep me away (which I have since done). They'd much rather not do 'petty' things which we consider important. I have since found an independent Lexus Master/Hybrid Tech and he gets my my money.
