Default 2007 gs350 power steering failed. Need help!

I have a Lexus 2007 gs350 and my power steering isnt working. Any ideas what exactly it may be? I was thinking the power steering rack needs to be replaced or the power steering module may have failed perhaps? It would sometimes work on a start for a few seconds and thats it.

Any ideas or suggestions anyone?

happened to me. dealer determined it was the rack that was bad.

did you have the rack replaced under the recall? there was a recall a few years ago, if you havent had it done, now would be good time

It's got around 55k on it and no I haven't done a recall on the steering rack. I called them before and they told me there was no recall on that except for some valve spring. Was there a recall on the steering rack ?

If enough people complain with NTHS, Lexus may have a recall on their EPS.
The latest TSB is
L-SB-0015-11

March 23, 2011

Notchy Steering Feel at Highway Speeds (4WD)

Introduction

Some Lexus vehicles may exhibit an intermittent non-binding notchy steering feeling and/or the steering wheel does not smoothly self-center when driving at highway speeds. This condition may occur when changing lanes or when coming out of long sweeping turns at highway speeds. Please use the following repair procedure to address this condition.

I look at the TSB. The repair is the replacement of the Power Steering Gear assembly.
The TSB applies to all 2006 GS300 AWD, 2007-2011 GS350 AWD with last 5 ditigts VIN# below 28532.

Default power steering rack problem

I see a lot of posts on a power steering rack problem. I am new to this forum. Last week I got in my car and it simply would not turn. The P/S light came on. I took it to the dealer and they said that my power steering rack needs to be replaced. They said that my car was only eligible for one recall related to power steering and I had that done 3 years ago. My VIN does not come up for the other recall. There is definitely a problem regardless of what my VIN number is.

I bought this car because of the Lexus brand. I did not expect repairs that cost over $2500 when I haven't even finished payments. It is unusable right now. and only has 80,000 miles on it. If you have encountered this problem, what were you able to do about it and what else can I expect to go wrong on my GS300?

Thanks,

ddixon03

Dealer determined my rack was bad. Two options that I have and would like some suggestions.
Option1: Buy a used rack for $500 ish from auto parts place with 2-3 months warranty.
Option 2: Buy a remanufactured one for $720 with lifetime warranty.

Not sure which one I want to go with. Do these steering racks go out anytime? I just wouldn't want to buy a used one not knowing how many miles are on it and see it fail again and pay out of the pocket for another one. Suggestions would help.

I would suggest not to buy a used ps rack as it is an electronic component not the old style hydraulic racks. Really hard to test those units to verify if it is working properly.
Since I see you only have 55,000 miles, I would actually call the lexus customer helpline and see if they can offer any assistance in repair since youre only out of warranty by 5000 miles
