My CD had no sound but the radio worked fine. The dealer was really helpful - tried changing the CD player but didn't make any difference. They tried tapping the amplifier and it started working again, so obviously a bad connection somewhere inside the amp. This explained why it stopped working after I drove over a bump.
They replaced the amplifier under warranty and it all works perfectly now. If the warranty had expired, then would have tried to get old amp repaired because new ones are very expensive ....!

Isn't the amp on ML in the trunk? If not then I guess something could be bad with my amp too.. just making sure. I'm not the first owner of my car and I think this is just weird

Yes...the ML amp is on the passenger side in the trunk.

The radio is connected from head end to amp through L/R analog cable. The CD/DVD player is connected through a separate S/PDIF digital cable. That is why one can go bad while the other still works.

I unplugged the optical cable from the amp side in the trunk and plugged it back in and audio works fine once again from CDs and DVDs.

This happened to me a couple of times in the last 3 years. I firmly slapped the passenger side of the stereo console and it starts playing right away. I don't think it's a wiring problem, but maybe the CD changer just getting stuck?

I tried that prior to... but did no good. Mine is still working fine. I ordered the beatsonic bypass so im gonna clean it all up and putting all my wiring back to stock.

i had the same issue. the sound in FM/AM mode works, but not when in CD mode. I knocked around the radio and navigation a few times, hitting the dash and sides quite hard, and the sound came back. so its probably a loose connection somewhere.

I had the same exact issue with my 2007 GS 350. Everything plays fine except the CD plays without sound. I knocked around the radio and navigation unit both on passenger and driver sides but it didn't help. I went to the trunk passenger side, where the amplifier locates, opened the carpet cover and I must have touched the wiring harness beside the amplifier, the sound came on and the CD sound working fine again.
