Default Clear the deck

The plastic housing for the center brake light and ECD sensor on our rear deck kinda bugs me. It obstructs my view a bit, reflects light, and is just plain ugly. So, I decided to get rid of it.

Rear view mirror view before ....

Rear view mirror view after ....

Exterior view before ...

Exterior view after ... (black fabric fitted over the back section covers hole in deck left from fixture and reduces glare)

Brake light after ... (I tried 4 different LED strips and tubes, but they were either too dim or too big for my taste. I ended up recycling the stock LED fixture)

ECD sensor after ... (invisible from drivers seat, and much more sensitive without the tinted plastic cover over it)

If anyone is interested, I can do an DIY.

good job! i think that's one very clean install!

question, after the mod, does the rear deck still have the brake light? i can't tell from the pic if it's still the case of it it's reflection of any kind. if so, maybe it will be cleaner if you use something to completely cover that up

Thanks rominl.

I moved the LED fixture (the lens and the LED board) into the headliner right above the window. I had to cut two slits into the headliner to make it look right, but if I go back to stock, the slits are completely hidden from view.

Here's a better view ...

Looks great! Interestingly, what is left of the housing at the deck looks like the F logo used for F-Sport.

Edit: have me thinking about an ebay spoiler to try and retrofit the LED into - similar to my wife's SC400.

Thanks guys!

I'll write up a DIY and post it as soon as I can. This is an easy mod ... a couple of hours at most and about $5 in materials! Of course, that doesn't include the $75 I spent on rejected LED strips and tubes and a couple of blown fuses.

That's what I was going to do originally, but ended up getting rid of my roof spoiler. Do it ... it will look great!
