windshield scratches
The worst damage to your car is the damage you did on your own. Like a retard I shoveled the snow off my car and put a couple of long scratches right across my windshield. Is there any way to fix this besides replacing the entire windshield? I hate myself so much right now, and hate the winter even more. and really hate the lack of having a garage. Just doesn't pay to have a nice car in NYC really.
Back in 2003 here in MD we got hit with about 30+ inches of snow, my 2000 GS300 Platinum Series was absolutely buried. We dug most of it out and I had the bright idea of not cleaning the front but just driving out and the snow will fall off the front on it's own. One thing i forgot was that underneath all of the snow was...ICE!!! And boy did I have some deep scratches caused by this on my car, I had to get the hood repainted because of this so trust me I know how you feel.
Call a local glass repair shop. They do have a way to fix this depending on how deep the scratch is and also where its located. If your not able to find anyone call your Lexus dealer they will have someone they use for repairs.
There is a thing out there called glass polish, probably works the same way as fixing scratches in paint using a compound but it probably takes much longer to do and you probably need something more powerful than a porter cable.
Sorry, man. I know EXACTLY how you feel. Digging out from 36" of snow couple of weeks ago I used a shovel with a metal edge. I put two scratches on the rear quarter panels of my car as a result. I'm thinking of trying the as-seen-on-TV scratch repair kit since these ones appear to be just in the clear coat (my car is red and the scratches look white).
You may have to pay for the new windshield. But think of the positive: you will no longer have a windshield pitted by rocks. The windshield on my 2007 GS looks pretty badly pitted. However, as passnu2 suggested, scratches might be fixed by a glass repair shop.
