Bought an '07 GS350 in August which started doing this a few weeks in, but I luckily still have warranty until 2015. When I asked the dealer about it when I went in for the 60K service, he said it was "nothing to worry about"...

Is there a consensus on whether this rattle just an annoyance, or indicative of a problem that should be fixed?

Default clatter persists...

I had no idea what this was all about till now..just took my car to the dealer. 07 GS350 AWD....I bought it off the lot brand new Fall 06 and have had impeccably maintained since day one at lexus dealerships. Had the valve spring replacement recall done but now getting loud clatter at cold starts and brought it up to dealerships a couple times over the last year or so...now it's horrible and embarassing and the car is out of warranty...talking to dealership and Lexus now to see if they will make it right...$2800 repair bill...we will see. This may be my last Lexus if this is how their cars last...engine issues like this shouldn;t be so common..hope it's been addressed in newer models.

That is terrible to hear. My 07 GS350 is at lexus as we speak getting the clatter noise fixed. I have only heard it a few times. Went in and told them about it and played the video of the sound on my phone. And they said that they will honour the repair through warranty. My warranty isn't up until October of this year though. When did your warranty expire? . I am surprised they are not helping you out seeing that you bought that car brand new. That's not nice at all. I only bought my car 4 months ago and not even from a lexus dealership. But I guess all dealerships are different. Good luck

Try changing the viscosity of your oil to match the cooler climate change. That could play a big factor in pistons slap. Your not killing the engine, its just a lack of lubrication once you fire it up, until the oil gets pressurized.

Change the oil and try dino oil experiment with it. What's it going to cost you $20 bucks!

Had this same problem on my 08 GS35 42k miles. Took it to the dealer and I they immediately knew the problem said there was a bulletin out and fixed it right up. No issues since.

How long ago did you get it fixed? And how long did the repair take?

They replaced all the pistons ring and new short engine block from Japan. I had to wait one month for the parts to come. In that one month I had a 2013 is loaner

I am at 108K miles...a lot I know, but since this started before the powertrain warranty was up (extended due to valve spring replacement recall) I am happy to report that Lexus and the dealership has decided to take care of it all...making me VERY happy and assuring that my next new car will be a Lexus. I think the lesson learned here is that it's definitely worth it to have your car serviced at a dealership so all your records are easily available and also to bring up every rattle and noise you might hear just so its documented...no matter how insignificant you may think it is. Thanks all for the good ideas and hope these posts may help others like me!

I had mine done not too long ago after taking it in a few times, they were finally able to confirm the noise. I have an 08 GS350 with 90k on it, but the power train warranty was extended to a little over 100k ( dont remember the exact number). It only took a few days.

So does this noise persist even after start up? I think I hear the clatter noise even after startup and driving around. When I was at a stop light I swear that the noise coming from the engine sounded like a diesel truck, is this normal?
