Bought my car used at 80K miles, so no warranty. Also saw horror stories about getting the fix done, but the engine runs worse after, or the noise comes back again like yours, 300.
So I decided to just ignore the noise, and if something breaks, THEN, I'll spend the $2000 to get it fixed. But so much for "the pursuit of excellence".

I k now if i don't step on the brakes all the way to start my car, the sound doesn't come up as often. Not sure if this is legit or just in my head now. It does make the sound if its sitting at night after driving all day though. i just ignore it as much as possible now.

Long Lexus told me it's not covered when i last brought it in. Which was last month. Even though they heard of the issue.

Anybody ever did the repair out of warranty and not at lexus. I wonder what are the basic parts needed for the repair. A pair of cam gears and chains maybe?

I had mine fixed about 1.5 or 2 years ago and the noise has returned.

And for the fact when the dealership replaces any part, they have to replace EVERYTHING around that part vs just replacing the actual damaged part.

Rattling noise to watch regarding yesterday recall from Lexus.

TOYOTA ANNOUNCES VOLUNTARY RECALLS
TORRANCE, CA September 3, 2013 – Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. today announced that it will conduct two voluntary safety recalls. One involves approximately 133,000 MY 2006-2010 Highlander Hybrid and MY 2006-2008 Lexus RX 400h vehicles. The other involves approximately 102,000 MY 2006-2011 Lexus IS 350, IS 350C, and GS 350 vehicles.

In the involved Lexus IS 350, IS 350C and GS 350 vehicles, bolts used to secure the variable valve timing control device can become loose, causing the vehicle to stop while being driven. Early warning for this condition can be identified as a brief rattle noise for approximately 1 second upon a cold start-up.

If your car is in the affected group does the dealer contact you, or do you have to ask them about it?

Also, where can I read the original source of that press release?
