you can add my name to the list of "engine knock @ start-up" 2006 GS300 w/40K. Noise started about 1 year ago and now makes it presence known here & there. Naturally dealer never hears it but Im glad to see I'm not the only one with the problem.

I noticed this intermittent noise at start up in the morning for the first time earlier this year. I have a '06 GS300 w/33K miles. I thought the down pipe or part of the exhaust system was loose. Last for 1-2 seconds. I saw an early entry who wondered if going to full synth oil would resolve the problem. The answer is no. I went on full synth oil last fall. My warranty expires in Feb 2010 & this is on my list of repairs to get done before it expires. Engine start rattling noise, side view mirrors that don't go back into preset position after being in reverse, intermittent slow or no response of "close" sunroof button from the tilt up position, scrubbing/swooshing sound her from what I think is the front left wheel only. I hear it while at coasting speed (pulling into garage, drive thru windows, etc). Lexus Svc Dept earlier this summer said nothing is rubbing, its just noise from the runflats, but I think they tested it at high speeds on the road & not just coasting along in the parking lot. Very annoying, cause others can hear it (if they're windows are down) when I pull up beside them at a traffic light. A noise that Lexus should not be making.

I have had the dash rattle, wind noise, and issue with the mirrors not returning to preset position. Other than that the car has been solid. I do have the issue intermitently with the clatter at start up, but I notice mine mostly when the car is initially started in the morning

that is what the problem is. the "clatter" is not normal. take it to the dealer and they should know exactly what you are referring to and do the TSB. i had it done approx 2 months ago and no problems since

Just took my 07 GS350 in for 20K maintenance and at the same time had them resolve the "engine knock on cold start up". There is a TSIB for that already and they know exactly what it is. Have them keep starting up the car until they hear it, or record it on video. That's not necessary tho. They know exactly what it is. Havent heard the noise since, and its been great keeping my fingers crossed it never comes back.

Take it to the dealer. My dealer didn't even question it. I guess it's a well known problem. I described the problem, didn't even have to mention about TSIB. They said "sure, we will fix that, do you need a loner?"
Got the fuel line safety recall done, full tank of gas, car wash and I got to drive a practically new 2010 RX350 loner for few days
New joystick navigation control isn't too bad I thought it would be.

My car has been doing this too... I also got the 3 major recalls done earlier in the year.. So this is a completely different recall ? I got about 43,000 miles, but it has been doing this since 25,000 miles..

Go to the dealer and have it done. The tsb is for the cam gears. What happens is upon start up oil rushes into the cam gear to advance or retard timing. The old gears dont get enough oil to pressurize to advance or retard and that is why you have the clanking noise. This happens alot after oil changes, early morning startups; when oil pressure is low.

There is service bulletins for the dash rattles. Dash must be removed and the clips that are closest to the windshield need to be insulated.

There is a service bulletin for wind noise, there is a revised weather strip to seal the areas affected by wind noise.

Some models are affected by the fuel rail recall, EPS ( electronic power steering ) rear caliper bushings.

If you dont know if you fall in the category, Go to your dealership and have them run your VIN. They are obligated to tell you what has been done and what needs to be done.
