Let me re-phrase that. A good percentage of Toyota and Lexus have this problem, including the RX350.

other car makers have tilting mirrors too.

do you hear them complaining about failure?

lexus probably makes the worst gears.

also, when the mirrors fold in, how slow are they supposed to move?
mine take a full 3 seconds, and are pretty noisy.

does any car have a near silent gear in the mirror?

I actually have had this problem on two 08 RXs. They were both loaners and one was a RX400h and the other was a RX350. They both did the exact same thing.

Lexus wont replace my mirror because they can't duplicate the problem. The minute I take it home it will start messing up again. What is the recall number for the gs models?

then chill for a bit, and wait till it gets worse.

you still have plenty of warranty time left. it's not worth wasting your time at the stealership, is it?

Problem is that it craps out on me when I take it home. Dealer can't duplicate problem so it MY PROBLEM and not theirs until they can duplicate it. This is the second time my car is at lexus for the same problem. I would expect better service from a car that I bought for 55k.

so you got one of those sneaky cars that behave well at the dealership......

next time get a service tech and duplicate the problem for him to see.

they need to see it once before they'll replace it.

I've had my driverside mirror changed out twice in the two years that I've had my car... it's very frustrating, but I find the auto tilt very helpful, when it works...

I wish they folded automatically, but mine at least seem to move quick and quietly.

Default mirror problems

I had the same problem. First dealership said they couldn't replicate it. Then when I replicated it, the service manager said it wasn't severe enough to justify any replacment. I took it to a second dealer and they schedule an appointment to replace both mirrors within a few minutes of looking at the mirrors. The second dealer said that they and Lexus are well aware of the problem. I asked the GM at the first dealership why they were clueless. He conveniently claimed that they don't want to commit "warranty fraud." My business will stay with the second dealership.
The mirrors work fine now.

Its only fraud if someone has something to gain.

I have also had left and right side mirrors replaced on 2 separate occasions to fix this problem.

They are well aware of this problem.

I had the same problem, but at Westside Lexus. The problem is not that pronounced right now but I am sure it will probably get worse over time... and when it can be reproduced regularly, I'll be sure to bring it in again!

Default Rear View Mirror Tilt Problem

My passenger side rear view mirror tilt only tilts 10-15 degrees. I think when I bought this new in 2007 it tilted more. It basically is useless right now with the degree of tilt it does not let you see curb when backing up. I took it in several months ago and dealer told me this is working normal. I think otherwise, has anyone experience this problem and was is corrected?

the manual actually describes a way to adjust the amount of tilt in reverse, I ve never tried it but look in there. Otherwise it may be a bad mirror, those gears go out often, but I guess it should not work right in going back to the original spot....I turned mined off so that the gears dont break now that I am out of warranty, that and I installed the mirror covers...
