Default Here's a new one.. Bulbs burst !

So i was driving home about 4 days ago an night and had the brights on and off as i passed cars on the back roads.. then all of a sudden the brights quit working.. For whatever reason i forgot about it when i got home and was taking out the trash last night and noticed the high beam lights looked a little dirty/foggy.. Then it all came back to me that the brights quit working.. turns out BOTH high beam bulbs burst! WTF?? never had that happen before.. anyone else ? my first thought is a fault in the XenonDepot HID fog balasts, but they are not connected to the high beams.. Regular beams, HID fogs and parking lights are all fine.. wonder if i can get the mess out of those light fixtures or if i'll need to get new ones?

Are the high beams oem bulbs? IF they were, I would talk to the dealer about cleaning up the mess or getting new hosings.

A light bulb going out is a very random occurance and they don't just blow up. If both of them blew up and you recall the lights flickering before this happened, there must have been some type of power surge to the lights. My guess is your HID fog installation is flawed and maybe there is a grounding issue. Remove the HID system and take it in to Lexus. If you leave it in, they will void your warranty claim for sure.

^ Bad advice. Remember, if you play, you also must pay. How can you reasonably expect Lexus to believe that BOTH oem high beam bulbs randomly exploded at the same time for no explainable reason ? I'll bet the wiring harnesses are fried due to the voltage surge and it will be fairly obvious that the cause is foul play. It's the OPs time and money, so he can try this, but I wouldn't go in with high expectations that warranty will cover any of this. . .

I agree but if he at least wants a shot at warranty coverage, he should take out the HID system. Regardless, it's the most likely culprit so there is no point in leaving the HID system anyways.

I would check out the voltage regulator too.

Our kit uses a relay harness to power the ballasts. There is no way that the kit would cause this.

I agree with 2thfixer though. There is no legitimate reason for Lexus to blame the kit however I would take it out just to avoid any hassles/headaches.

I'll take a look at it this weekend, haven't had time for anything this week. I did have thos HIR bulbs, if one blew, i'd consider it the cause but both at the same exact time says otherwise. My dealer is pretty easy going with mods, mainly because they love what i do with my cars, agree that the factory should be the one doing it in the first place, and i've bought four, soon to be five cars from them.. They took my Tanabe springs off as part of fixing my vibration problems and didn't charge.. and they already know about (and like) the HID fogs anyway. I'll try blasting the glass dust out of the fixtures w/some compressed air, it really doesn't seem to have damaged anything inside. Then put the OEM bulbs in for a while and see if the same thing happens. I too agree it couldn't be the Xenon kit, which is still working perfectly, it doesn't connect to the wires on the high beams anywhere.. and there are plenty of fuses/relays in between that I would think would blow first.
