3rd Gen GS Nav Bluetooth DVD mods thread
you cut the white with silver dots wire (middle harness) and purple wire (driver side harness) then you use a switch to connect the purple wire coming from the deep side of the dash (not radio) to the white with silver spots (going away from the radio (to the nav). then this switch is on all the time except to input addresses, what that does is it allows the purple VSS signal to go to the nav See diagrams and pics (thanks to quezacotl for dgm)

Here is the switch I used, came from a 3.5inch external HDD enclosure I had

DVD override: If you have done the wire modification for nav, you have already taken the speed signal away from the cd / dvd changer. All you need to do additionally to allow DVD video in motion is to trick the dvd changer to think that the parking brake is applied. All you need to do is to ground the yellow parking brake wire. You cut the yellow wire in pics and attach a grounding connector (and wire extension) to the side that goes to the radio display and ground it to chassis. This way, car thinks it is not moving and the parking brake is applied (no dash lights come on) and lets your family watch DVD while car is in motion.
I have a 2007 AWD GS350 w/ Nav and ML
I just ordered the VAIS ipod adaptor and want to be able to use the screen while driving.
Just wanted to make sure there's not a newer, more effective route I should
take. thanks!
Thanks, and wish me luck!

WOW! I DID IT! - Took a lot more time than most of you, but for a rookie at this I pulled through nicely with no problems. Thanks for everyone involved in making these guides so the handicapped like me can do it too!

for 2006 GS with ML and NAV....
i basically have to cut 2 wires (pink and purple), lead the sides coming from the car(not radio) to a simple switch. then simply ground the yellow cable (for dvd hack) and im done???
I want to perform the DVD override, but I am also considering installing the SL2iC (Native Video Interface for iPod touch and iPhone) whenever it comes out.
My questions are--(1) are there installation overlaps (wires and/or otherwise) between the SL2iC and the DVD override? Should I wait to perform the DVD override until the SL2iC comes out aside from not having to pull apart the nav unit twice?
Thanks in advance.

can be as little as 45 secs. i have seen people with cut wire, it depends on speed, and at above 40mph or so, after 45 seconds the nav override went away
btw, from what i recall, the navi override you're speaking of isnt retained in memory though, is it? i recall reading the DIY section and it says u need to do that everytime u start the car, correct?
