Are the wire colours for an '09 GS350 the same as with the '07-'08's? I'd like to know before starting to open up such an expensive piece. Thanks in advance.

Here is the switch I used, came from a 3.5inch external HDD enclosure I had

DVD override: If you have done the wire modification for nav, you have already taken the speed signal away from the cd / dvd changer. All you need to do additionally to allow DVD video in motion is to trick the dvd changer to think that the parking brake is applied. All you need to do is to ground the yellow parking brake wire. You cut the yellow wire in pics and attach a grounding connector (and wire extension) to the side that goes to the radio display and ground it to chassis. This way, car thinks it is not moving and the parking brake is applied (no dash lights come on) and lets your family watch DVD while car is in motion.
Is this still the best method for the Nav override?

I have a 2007 AWD GS350 w/ Nav and ML

I just ordered the VAIS ipod adaptor and want to be able to use the screen while driving.

Just wanted to make sure there's not a newer, more effective route I should
take. thanks!

It is indeed, you can buy the prestigious society kit to spare the cutting

Cutting doesn't really bother me as long as everything functions as needed when finished. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't a newer, better technique I was overlooking.

Thanks, and wish me luck!

WOW! I DID IT! - Took a lot more time than most of you, but for a rookie at this I pulled through nicely with no problems. Thanks for everyone involved in making these guides so the handicapped like me can do it too!

Woo Ipod + DVD + Nav override!! I'm lovin it!

sorry if this is newb, but i wanna get this straight before i pull out my entire dash and hack a $4,000 system....

for 2006 GS with ML and NAV....

i basically have to cut 2 wires (pink and purple), lead the sides coming from the car(not radio) to a simple switch. then simply ground the yellow cable (for dvd hack) and im done???

i dont think the wire cut will allow for unlimited time like the PS kit will. not sure so i'll let someone else comment on that.

I have a 2007 GS350 w/ML & Nav & XM Radio.

I want to perform the DVD override, but I am also considering installing the SL2iC (Native Video Interface for iPod touch and iPhone) whenever it comes out.

My questions are--(1) are there installation overlaps (wires and/or otherwise) between the SL2iC and the DVD override? Should I wait to perform the DVD override until the SL2iC comes out aside from not having to pull apart the nav unit twice?

Thanks in advance.

That's right. The hack will stay active for about 3 minutes or so, so a switch is needed to do a switch on / off cycle and the hack will come back active.

So in order for dvds to be played in motion this hack isnt an ideal option?

you don't need one before doing another. but i would just do all together coz' you are taking off the same stuff.

can be as little as 45 secs. i have seen people with cut wire, it depends on speed, and at above 40mph or so, after 45 seconds the nav override went away

with the wire hack yes. you have an 06 so you really dont need the wire hack for the navi override. you can just do the "finger dance" for the screen to access the override button for the navi portion. this is strictly for navi though, not movies.

yea i dont really care too much for the navi override becuz i use my android phone for navigation (but it wouldnt hurt to have the enter-while-in-motion feature), but the main reason i wanted to do this was so i can have my passengers watch movies on long road trips, but if its gonna cut off in 40secs, no point in doing this!

btw, from what i recall, the navi override you're speaking of isnt retained in memory though, is it? i recall reading the DIY section and it says u need to do that everytime u start the car, correct?
