Default I may be blind but how do I

Where is this MOD INFO or whatever that allows me to watch DVD's well driving? It may be right in front of me but I can't seem to find it.

Sort of like looking in the refrigerator looking for something you can't find only to find out it was right in front of you the whole time

I read through this Nav/Hack Mod and I have a question. Does this Mod affect other features than just allowing the DVDs to be seen while moving? I had read about changes in 'scrolling' and other issues.

Anyone care to comment?

NO.

Now, cut-throat, problem with scrolling?

Let me explain. You have to trick the car three different ways to bypass 3 issues.

First, you have to trick the car into thinking the parking break is applied. this is the yellow wire. You snip that then ground the proper end.

Second, you have to cut the purple wire, (I think this is the vehicle motion wire) meaning if you don't cut it, it cuts off the picture when you start moving. So you have to cut this one.....BUT...

But, but cutting the previous purple wire, although this does do what it's suppose to do, but within that wire is also the NAV GPS.

If you just stopped now, with just cutting the yellow and purple, you could watch DVD's while moving, BUT now your NAV wouldn't scroll smoothly. It would be choppy. It is choppy, b/c the car is strictly going off of the DVD for GPS location, instead of that in conjuction with the GPS in the car.

SO, to have your NAV scrolling smoothly you have to cut another extra wire....(this specifc wire varies depending on what model/year you have.)
I have the 450h which is the same wire cutting procedure as the new 350.

It's the white with silver dots in the center wire cluster.

I have the v5.1 NAV so I can do the touch screen push button hack to override the DEST input while driving by doing the touchscreen, without having to make a switch.

Since I have the v5.1 I connected the purple wire I cut in step #2, to the white with silver dots I did in step #3. By doing this it takes out the middle man in the wires, and the NAV scrolls smoothly.

If you don't have the v5.1, and you have the new v6.1 you have to make a switch like "2thfixr" did. He doesn't have the luxury of pressing the screen, but then again, I do have to do it manually, and he does just have a flip button switch....

Find previous pics and posts to find out more info...

Hope my short explanation wasn't to confusing....

I just checked and I have the 6.1 version. - I have not had the '*****' to mess with this yet, although I would like to.

Jason, you have become an expert my friend, it's nice to see you educating the troops. The mod is pretty easy if you are comfortable with doing some light wiring work. It's not a matter of *****, it's about being careful and getting a full understanding of what you are doing before you make any cuts. For all of you guys that are intimidated and sitting on the fence, grow a pair and go for it!

What is the "switch" that you had to implement? And what does it switch off and on?

Also, I have searched the Tips area and read the various posts of doing this mod. I think that is my problem, is that I do not have a clear understanding of what needs to be done. I have the 6.1 Nav system in a GS350. I am skilled with a soldering iron and electrical projects as I have built many amplifiers and used to be an electronics Tech. I think if someone could point me to a procedure for the 6.1 Nav System that I could do it. The wiring is a piece of cake - getting to the wiring is usually the problem IMHO.

Yes, I am very talented thanks Rob for pointing that out.
I understand it b/c of the time you took explaining the purpose of certain things. Thanks.
Oh and I didn't add the extra light in the trunck light hack, but I did bend and pinch the existing light housing and install that 12 LED. Even that looks better for the moment.
I will do the other one in when I actually have some time to devote to that.
ALthough it won't be as "perfected and nice" as yours it'll be sufficient for me for the time being.
