Default Oil Maint "Reqd" Warning Light

So I had my oil changed by someone other than a Lexus dealer - because we all know it should be illegal what the dealerships charge for the 15K service (considering what they do, or don't do).
So now my "OIL MAINT REQD" message won't go away. I have read the manual and it says to reset the Maintenance log - fine , no problem , done that - reset it to 5000 miles even set the date - even though that was never originally set. Nothing went off - same message. I have tried "deleting" all the maintenance warnings (turning them off) nothing went off.
Keep in mind this is not the "OIL MAINT RESET" message, which I have yet to see and has been refered to numerous times in this forum.
I am at the point where I believe that only the dealer can actually turn off the message off or there is something wrong.
PLEASE HELP......

This is almost comical. And you ask why you should go to a Lexus dealership to do the 15k service?
For Gods sake, its a Lexus, treat her right.

What kind of idiot pays $550 for an oil change and tire rotation - that would be comical. If you actually believe that the other crap is necessary then please send me $500 - I'll light it on fire and send it back to you in an envelope.

Now does anybody actually have a suggestion?

Can u take it to the dealer to have the light turned out? I can't see why they wouldn't do that for u. They have to realize there are many many people who don't do dealer oil changes.

Well I guess by your statement, anyone that does the 15k service at Lexus is an idiot. Thanks for clearing that up.

You attitude is comical.

Relax scottmyers, we see your point. The question was about the oil light though & he didn't go to a dealer like many of us do not. I kind of enjoy doing the oil & filter changes myself as i use 100% synthetic oil. I even chaned the gear & tranny fluid too.

Just poking a little fun. No offense p34m23.
Although I hope we get more than an oil change at the 15k service from Lexus.

talking about oil changes. i saw that sewell lexus sells what appears to be the inner part of what would be in a filter. do you keep the outer shell of the filter? is it reusable? is it possible to service this yourself or at jiffylube? excuse my ignorance, but this is my first lexus

make sure your trip settings are turned off (trip a and b) and make sure the car is NOT running. lower your control panel that has all your odometer setting and rear view mirror settings. there are two buttons, one is odo trip and the other is odo reset.

now.... hold down odo trip button, with car off, and then turn on your accessories by pressing start button twice, but do not have the brake depressed, you dont want to start the car. continue to hold the odo trip button till the IC says Oil Maint Reset. should only take like 5 seconds

yes, the replaceable part of the filter is just an element, you need to keep the shell, and to do it right, you need the fancy tool only your lexus dealer has...but a strap wrench works just fine

Actually, you need to hold down both ODO Trip AND ODO Reset.
