What features does the 2006 GS have that the 2006 IS doesn't and vice-versa ( besides the 5th generation navigation system )? I looked on the Lexus web site and they seem to be identical in feature set. This is strange to me because a fully loaded GS costs about $10,000 more than a fully loaded IS. I would never buy an IS again ( I recently got rid of a 2001 IS 300 for a 2005 Acura TL ) because it's too small and I prefer luxury over sport, but I was just curious what advantages, feature wise, the GS has over the IS. Sorry for the rant. Thanks. Happy holidays everyone.
the new IS is a COMPLETELY different car from the old IS (larger, faster and more luxurious). The GS has adjustable suspension, but lacks the bixenon and MP3 capability of the IS. I didn't fall for IS300 in 2002 and got a G35C. IS350 is ages beyond IS300--you need to see it.
In addition to what jlin101 mentioned, the 2IS also has the lighted door scuff plates and tachometer needle that runs through the RPM's when it starts up. The GS350 will probably have all that (minus the tachometer needle movement) and then some.
GS has folding side-view mirrors, self-close trunk, power telescoping steering wheel, and leg room. I don't think the IS has these features, someone correct me if i'm wroing.
how about the LED lighting inside the GS seems nicer then the one in the new IS. also little more power to the speakers in the ML. ECD Instrumentation's that are vary vary nice. heated seats are standard not vented but heated are no more price. Auto-Dimming inside and outside mirrors standard. and the AC has charcoal air filter more cars should but the IS dos not. Xenon are standard no extra cost and wood steering wheel. i love the new IS but it gets lost next to a GS. one day my GS will work and i can enjoy driving it agen
Does the new GS have illuminated cup holders? I guess it's all the little touches in the GS that set it apart feature wise from the IS. Damn Lexus, if only they had the GS 350 AWD out now. The wait's killing me.

Hmmm not to bust you bubble on the ML in the IS and GS, but the IS's ML system is a step above the GS in clarity and the Nav system is Lexus' 5th Generation system. Our own Electronics Moderator elaborated on this not too long ago here:
Heated/ventilated seating, Bi Xenon HID w/AFS headlighting are definitely available on the New IS. Auto dimming inside and exterior mirrors are standard features in the New IS.
All in all, the new IS and the new GS are targeted towards different target markets. Sure the GS may have more standard features as it should, but there is a few thousand dollar premium if you were to match each vehicle with the same or similar options. The New IS is a sports sedan with luxury amenities. The New GS is a luxury sedan with a more sporty flare. A fully loaded IS350 with everything you can put is just at $46k. A fully loaded GS430 with everything is $61k.
it no use comparing what's standard vs optional in each car; otherwise, IS owners can claim that moon roof is standard on the IS but not GS. We should compare what's available in each model instead. The fact is a loaded GS300 costs several thousand more than an identically equipped IS350, minus the better engine/brakes/wheels-tires. GS does have power trunk closer and electric folding mirrors, as LS has power door closer and rear side sun shade; how useful those features really are is up to the individual. Bixenon and MP3--I use every day. I also found the metallic face of GS's instrument hard to read due to reflection.
There is one big difference between all GS owners and some IS owners. I, for one, if I wanted the IS, I would have bought the IS but it doesn't suit my needs. On the other hand, some of those who own the IS even if they wanted a GS is just not within their budget. Everytime I see a thread title GS vs IS, to me is like a "my car is better than your car" argument.
A GS will probably offer you a little more exclusivity on the road.
exclusivity? LOL. Yugo's and Renaults are quite exclusive nowadays. Maybe that's how LS buyers justify their purchase of LS instead of GS. If GS owners think people buy the IS simply because it's cheaper, and that GS is better because it's more expensive, no wonder BMW 5 series owner snicker at GS's and M45's. Could it be that Lexus buyers couldn't afford BMW and MB's?

In a perfect world, I'd take a GS430 over any V6. Benz and BMW V6 offerings
included.
Beyond that, I needed AWD and backseat room (no IS) with decent reliability
(no Benz) and not over the top looks (no BMW). My choice was easy - GS300AWD.
Let's not get into a this car is better than this one, since there is always something
better and plus, no matter how much we love them, they are only cars...
