exclusivity? LOL. Yugo's and Renaults are quite exclusive nowadays. Maybe that's how LS buyers justify their purchase of LS instead of GS. If GS owners think people buy the IS simply because it's cheaper, and that GS is better because it's more expensive, no wonder BMW 5 series owner snicker at GS's and M45's. Could it be that Lexus buyers couldn't afford BMW and MB's?
umm to be honest with you it could be a factor.....but i really dont see cocky LS,GS,IS and SC owners talking about one car being better because it costs more......
Damn, why did this turn into a "my GS is better than your IS" thread? All I wanted to know was why the 2006 GS and 2006 IS are almost identical feature wise. The TL and RL aren't. The C-Class and E-Class aren't. The 3-Series and 5-Series aren't. The G and M aren't. The A4 and A6 aren't. I was just curious. I think if the GS was released in the fall of 2005, it would have illuminated scuff plates, bi-xenon headlamps ( even though I could care less because I have them on my TL and they aren't anything special ), 5th generation navigation system, a better ML system, etc.; basically, everything the IS has over the GS now feature wise. I think all of these things will be added to the 2007 GS lineup. The 2006 GS seems a little rushed to me, but Lexus will fix everything next year. Ultimately, I think the GS is slicker and cleaner looking than the IS and is more luxurious so that's why I'm getting one.
A GS will probably offer you a little more exclusivity on the road.
This is surprisingly true, I see more 2006 IS's on the road than 2006 GS's and the GS has been out since the spring and the IS just came this fall. With the previous generation IS, everyone seemed to have one ( me and 4 of my friends ). I have a feeling that this is going to happen with the new IS as well.
GS was released in the spring of 05; it's baffling why it didn't have the lighted scuff plates, my 04 RX330 had them. I don't think Lexus intended for the GS to be "exclusive," nor do I see that necessarily as an advantage or benefit. After all, there are very few RL compared to TL or GS, and we all know it is because the car tanked. I think Lexus should've made the GS 350 and 460 from the beginning to differentiate it from the IS. Even Toyota Avalon and the new RAV4 have 3.5L. Now GS is playing catch-up with its lesser siblings. The GS is supposed to be Lexus's premier sports luxury sedan.

Dude...as long as you enjoy your car....that's all that really matters. For me, I wanted a luxury sporty vehicle (which a LS is not), and that is why i chose the GS. I had a BMW before (a 745) and let me tell you, I regret that decision.
Also, wait like 1 year....the IS will be a me2 car (tons of them on the road), and like i said i do prefer a little exclusivity.

Wow, no need to be so defensive Relax, this is a pretty friendly forum.
I think the comment alluded to the fact that the IS will be produced in higher numbers compared to the GS. The IS is more of a volume seller, similar to the 3 series.
sorry if I came across being abrasive--I was just saying that neither GS nor IS is an "exclusive" car, unless you live out in the country. An Acura RL is rare, but I bet Acura is not proud of that fact. If supply far exceeds demand and the manufacturer starts heavily discounting the price, exclusivity is not something you'd want to brag about. The IS is intended to be a common car--I'd be disappointed if Lexus couldn't make their expected sales number. To tell the truth, the only Lexus model that is remotely exclusive is the SC.

dude...i didnt say exclusive...i said a "little more exclusive".
The IS, ES, and RX are Lexus' volume sellers ( maybe due to their cheaper price tag ). The GS, LS, LX, GX, and SC are more rare ( maybe due to their higher price tag ). This is good because I think that if everyone owned these vehicles Lexus would lose its prestige. On a side note, jlin101, most Lexus owners can afford to buy a MB, BMW, or an Audi, but they don't because they want reliability and quality before anything else ( please correct me if I'm wrong ). MB, BMW, and Audi don't offer either of these.

Thats for sure. I used to work at a large BMW dealership and it was a rare day that we didn't get at least 1 BMW flat bedded in because of a breakdown. Many days we would get 4-5 towed in. So yes, they are not that reliable. And I understand that our sister M-B store down the road was the same way. Thats the main reason I purchased a Lexus. Realiable and the interiors are great. Well, that and having owned 2 others in the past
