GS, IS Features ...

Damn, why did this turn into a "my GS is better than your IS" thread? All I wanted to know was why the 2006 GS and 2006 IS are almost identical feature wise. The TL and RL aren't. The C-Class and E-Class aren't. The 3-Series and 5-Series aren't. The G and M aren't. The A4 and A6 aren't. I was just curious. I think if the GS was released in the fall of 2005, it would have illuminated scuff plates, bi-xenon headlamps ( even though I could care less because I have them on my TL and they aren't anything special ), 5th generation navigation system, a better ML system, etc.; basically, everything the IS has over the GS now feature wise. I think all of these things will be added to the 2007 GS lineup. The 2006 GS seems a little rushed to me, but Lexus will fix everything next year. Ultimately, I think the GS is slicker and cleaner looking than the IS and is more luxurious so that's why I'm getting one.

GS was released in the spring of 05; it's baffling why it didn't have the lighted scuff plates, my 04 RX330 had them. I don't think Lexus intended for the GS to be "exclusive," nor do I see that necessarily as an advantage or benefit. After all, there are very few RL compared to TL or GS, and we all know it is because the car tanked. I think Lexus should've made the GS 350 and 460 from the beginning to differentiate it from the IS. Even Toyota Avalon and the new RAV4 have 3.5L. Now GS is playing catch-up with its lesser siblings. The GS is supposed to be Lexus's premier sports luxury sedan.

Also, wait like 1 year....the IS will be a me2 car (tons of them on the road), and like i said i do prefer a little exclusivity.

Relax, this is a pretty friendly forum.I think the comment alluded to the fact that the IS will be produced in higher numbers compared to the GS. The IS is more of a volume seller, similar to the 3 series.
sorry if I came across being abrasive--I was just saying that neither GS nor IS is an "exclusive" car, unless you live out in the country. An Acura RL is rare, but I bet Acura is not proud of that fact. If supply far exceeds demand and the manufacturer starts heavily discounting the price, exclusivity is not something you'd want to brag about. The IS is intended to be a common car--I'd be disappointed if Lexus couldn't make their expected sales number. To tell the truth, the only Lexus model that is remotely exclusive is the SC.

The IS, ES, and RX are Lexus' volume sellers ( maybe due to their cheaper price tag ). The GS, LS, LX, GX, and SC are more rare ( maybe due to their higher price tag ). This is good because I think that if everyone owned these vehicles Lexus would lose its prestige. On a side note, jlin101, most Lexus owners can afford to buy a MB, BMW, or an Audi, but they don't because they want reliability and quality before anything else ( please correct me if I'm wrong ). MB, BMW, and Audi don't offer either of these.
