I own a 06 GS300 without Nav. When listening to the radio or cd's, there is a function on the display screen where you can change speaker preferences from front to back and vice versa. Next to the icon on the left, there is a function called "ASL". What is it's function? Does it change sound quality?
Auto sound leveling, when your windows are open noise comes in, the stereo automatically adjusts the sound level to compensate for the increase in ambient decibles.

Thanks. Didn't know what that was. I'll test it today.
IMO, the ASL doesn't work that well. it really only gets louder with speed, like it's tied to the speedometer or something. a long time ago the dealer was trying to tell me if i was at a stoplight and a jackhammer started up from construction, the sound would get louder. i also got the roll your window down explanation, but in my experience with ASL for 7 yrs now on 6 diff Lexuses, neither of the types of "environmental" sounds are accounted for. only speed.

First test on the Freeway last night after work with all the windows plus sunroof down. Didn't actually notice the difference in sound quality but saw the volume meter jump up a couple of notches. Pretty cool.
This is my second lexus. My first Lexus 99es300 didn't have this feature. ( I think...)
Has anyone else noticed the microphone on the left rear deck? Is this related to the ASL?
thats not a mic most likey its the SIRIUS, i just cheecked my car, what has ml, with asl ,adn nothing is there, but i did look online and see SIRIUS and XM are moneted in the back there alot
