I'm a little concerned about the length of my lug studs in the rear. The wheels I put on are conical unlike the factory shank style that goes all the way into the wheel, and this only allow the nuts to turn maybe 40% of their normal travel at their torqued spot. I'm using the normal guerrilla tuner nuts used by most for their aftermarket wheels. However the wheels came with some nice hub-centric spacers that I didn't dare use because of the lack of lug thread already. But I was looking at the car and I really would like that extra little bit of spacer to flush the wheels out to the fender better. What I need are longer lug studs, but having gone through this same thing in the past with my vette, they were too long after install and I had to go to open end lug nuts. I don't want that for this car.
ARP made them for the vette and they were good strong studs, but very long. Anyone have the specs on what the OEM studs are and where I can get some longer ones? I just had my wheels off for the first time since I installed them and got reminded of this. As I increase in power, I'm running the risk of snapping the studs on a hard launch and destroying the wheel/car. Looking for suggestions. When I search I have the ARP ones come up, but I know them to be very, very long.
Thanks guys, but like I said.. ARP studs are extra long, too long, and I don't want the open end lug-nut look lol. I'll probably have to cut the ARPs which is pretty difficult. Was hoping for an easier option. I'll keep looking for now.
What do you guys think of these? From what I've found available as replacements, 40mm is the OEM length of the threaded part. These are 50mm on the threads. ARP is 60mm if I'm reading right. I don't think I need ARP at $75 for 10. Just longer for more thread to grab onto would make me comfortable. Not really worried that Id ever snap the OEM ones if they were long enough either. All 10 for the rear for $18. They say they are grade 10.9, should be very strong if that's true. They look to be of good quality.
I went out to measure and I have more than enough room for them. I only had spacers for the rear that came with the wheels and they are only about 8mm. 20mm will bring them basically flush without rubbing. I could have used 1 inch from what I measured, but to be on the safe side these will be about 3/4" spacers. Fronts could use it as much as the rear, so this set makes sense. Also way less work! Just bolt them onto the stock studs and bolt the wheels to the spacers. I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.
